Long time Tom! Moving closer across GG bridge to San Rafael. Hope we can get out again soon.
Excellent news; you of course have a standing invite to get your teeth kicked in at the 'Grove!
Finally hitting it well enough to feel like I stand a chance . Spent a yr getting rid of my spinning neg angle of attack drive.
I’ll ping you when I get settled. Been too long.
Absofrigginglutely
Also,in case you were not aware, Pasa back nine twice is done with two holes on each green, play the red flags first, then the white on second loop. Honestly a great way to appreciate the golf course for how much the pin placements can change the hole. (Full disclosure, I am biased heavily.) I’ve played the back nine twice maybe 6-8 times now. It’s great. Course has been in great shape as well. I hope you made that call, and enjoy the hell out of the experience! There is actually a good 15 feet of green right of that white pin in the second photo (hole 13). You might not have noticed that pin if I had not pointed it our, right?
i used to drive to Bodega from Marin when I lived up there. Always felt like that was best course for dollar. Guy in the clubhouse, forget his name used to always give me sonoma county rate. Such a good deal. after the first 5 holes, its a fun course to walk too.
Northwood for sure. Bodega is a worth while drive on a decent day, but can be hellish in the fog. Sea Ranch will be quite a treck from Santa Rosa so not sure that’s totally worth it. Windsor is the next town up and that course is for sure worth a loop if you’re trying to organize one more day, Russian River has their breweing facility 0.5mi away too for lunch & pints after.
from Santa Rosa, Windsor is a great muni, as is Foxtail North. Have heard good things about Bennett Valley too but haven’t personally played it yet!
Foxtail is solid but nothing you are going to write home about imo. Bennett Valley a little scruffier but the same sentiment. Northwood obviously a gem. I am in napa so if you end up venturing east let me know and I can give you some recs for there too
Fair points, I kind of forgot we’re looking for write home about not just a solid course LOL
Anyone want to play Presidio tomorrow? Open tee times at 3, 3:30, and 3:50 right now and I could make all work. The next open ones are around 5 which is likely going to be tough to finish by dark
Wish I could join brother. Have a time.
I ended up booking as a single at Harding Park. Presidio were dicks about booking as a single so I figured I’d be a man of the people and go play the muni hahaha
Hey everyone! Moving out to Novato from Atlanta on Labor Day until Thanksgiving. Looking to get involved and play some new courses while I’m out there. If anyone has any recommendations on where to play or knows of any roost events coming up let me know!
I’m not sure how many Roost events are taking place between Labor Day/Thanksgiving, but you can DM @GremlinGolfer for more information on those.
Corica South & North, Presidio, Harding Park, Half Moon Bay Ocean, and Baylands Golf Links are the better public options that come to mind in the general Bay area, but that list is a little more centered on San Francisco. I’d say the first four are the “must play” courses that I’d take a friend to if they were visiting.
There’s a bunch of alright options in the area that are fun to play but not that memorable. If you’re willing to drive, Pasatiempo and Cinnabar Hills are a little further and worth seeing. Pasatiempo is renovating their front nine but their back nine is one of the best nine holes in the country and 100% worth playing if you don’t anticipate coming back to the Bay Area in the future.
I’d also be happy to host you at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito, just shoot me a DM.
Keep an eye out for a “City Nines” sign up. Tough one to get into but ya never know. (We play three nine hole courses around Sf on Sat 10/28).
Novato has a cool little course called Indian Valley which I’d be happy to show you around (I’m in San Rafael which has Peacock Gap - while not an amazing course is very walkable, has v good greens and is pretty fun imo). In Rohnert park - the newer Foxtail North is ok.
Further north you’ve got the much lauded Mackenzie 9 in the redwoods - Northwood.
Mill Valley 9 hole is a fun course. hit off mats on a few holes and kinda beat up in places but really cool course surrounded by redwoods for a good price. Solid greens.
Rooster run is in Petaluma and is right next to a private airport. Generally in good shape. Architecture leaves something to be desired, but overall I always have a fun time out there. (Pace of play everywhere public is abhorrent)
Marin is tough for golf in terms of options. as @fullbodyfix said Indian Valley is a cool course, peacock, try and meet some locals who are members at Marin CC. Links at bodega is my favorite in the NB and not a terrible drive from Novato. BV in Santa Rosa, Windsor golf course, and Sebastapol has a fun 9 hole course.
