Played Harding Park last month when I was in town for a work trip. What a great setting. Unfortunately, the pro shop was all sold out of golf flags, so I didn’t go home with a pretty tree flag to add to my collection. Any locals / regulars willing to check the shop and ship a flag my way? Happy to buy you a beer (and pay all costs, obviously) for your efforts.
I am sure I can. If you want to check with the course and see when they are in stock, then let me know, I will head out there and grab one.
You can DM me or feel free to text me at 415-336-6683.
The shop has flags in stock. BUT. They don’t look like the flags they actually use on the course. They have the TPC / PGA Tour logo only. What a shame! The flags on the course with the iconic Monterey Cypress are beautiful. Guess I’ll hit up that eBay listing for a knock-off from China.
A great day was had. Hard to imagine a nicer day. @ayc25 was such a great host and new friend. That back 9 really sings. I was in love starting with 11.
Curious if there are any Contra Costa Country Club members here? I’m curious about membership cost. I know I could just reach out to them directly but what’s the fun in that?
FYI - I’m not eligible for the <40 membership option. I’m in the East Bay and getting tired of not having a place to practice, the tee time scramble, 5+ hour rounds, etc.
I loved Presdio. Played during the 49ers game so it wasn’t too crowded. Little soggy but it also sprinkled most of the back 9. Rare that I ever get to play a course surrounded by a city landscape. Definitely want to get back. Reminded me of Bandon Crossings.
Seemed like a very PNW course to me. Got the same atmosphere at both courses. Laid back. Lots of pretty trees. Low stress. Nothing blew me away but at the end of the round I was happy.
I wish I could have taken more pictures but I was a walker paired with cart folks so had to keep up.
Does anybody have strong opinions about Baylands? I’ve been wanting to check it out since I started playing a few years ago, but the price is pretty steep and the reviews are less than favorable.
Baylands is a fun course and it’s worth playing at least once. Greens are good/interesting, conditioning is fairly good and it has a number of interesting holes. The mounding around some of the greens leads to some really fun/interesting shots on some of the holes on the back nine.
It’s a good value if you play in the afternoon in the summer, otherwise it’s a bit steep for what it is, relative to other Bay Area courses.
Also note that it’s in garbage shape right now so I’d hold off for awhile. They let the grass die in the winter and it’s still really soggy. Tee boxes are terrible as well. See attached from Thursday.
I play there more than other places because the greens are consistently in good shape…other places have been hit/miss for me and its not worth saving $20 to put on shag carpet or goose crap.
That being said the sogginess is real right now and the links-style mounds and areas around the green don’t play the way they should…there is no rolling it up or bumping into the hills these days. On the “positive” note the hazards are actually hazards this time of year; (in the summer often the red stakes is just hardpan so it doesnt really penalize you)…I think this balances out the wide fairways and makes the course play quite a bit tougher.
If someone has a suggestion for better value in the area that is in decent shape right now please share!
