Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

Yup. It’s fun.

Hell yeah, looks fantastic. I need to find some time to get out there with my Dad soon.

Greebs is right, I played it last Friday the 22nd. It had rained a decent amount in the days before and the course was still very firm and balls bounced. I wish all courses would drain so well (the south course does too). The layout is a lot of fun, though a different style than the south and a bit rough around the edges still as it grows in. Greens weren’t fast, but they were true and I suspect in the summer they will be lightning quick and will cause even good putters fits.

Highlights:
3) Sweeping left hander that isn’t long but can bring a bit of risk into play if you try to shorten it by cutting off the left side as you can get caught in a swale under a tree and have no option but to punch it up and the green, even when slow, would not hold a rolling punch.

  1. Totally reachable par 5 even more a moderate hitter. But there are two nasty bunkers right in the landing zone on the left half of the fairway. So you know, stay right and the hole is easier but if you’re just a little bit off have fun cuz the bunkers are deep.

  2. Great risk reward hole. Very short par 4 (240-250) so it’s very reachable even without a driver for a lot of people. But the entire left side is guarded by water and said water is maybe 10 yards off the green and if you hit it left at all it will bounce into the water. And the prevailing wind will almost always be pushing toward the water and often very strong. There’s a ton of room to the right but it will reduce the chances for birdie and eliminate driving the green and having an eagle putt. Really fun hole.

If I lived in Alameda and if there was a way to actually get good tee times (seems like it’s impossible to get a time on either course before noon) I would probably not be a member at RCC and would just play here all the time.

Heath and I decided to split the way we played 8. I hit 5 iron down the right side which left me gap wedge in. Hit it on the wrong side of the spine but still fairly easy 2 putt par from 20 ft.

Heath smacked a drive smartly bailing right of the green. Chip and a 2 putt par.

There’s a lot more room right of the green than it looks like and I think we both agreed hitting your 250 shot favoring away from the water is still prob the correct play unless your totally lost off the tee.

Loved it.

It’s really weird, it’s hole 8 and I typed “8)” and the board is displaying it as “6)”

I hit my 3w aimed up the right but put a draw on it on accident and was nervous but was sitting 5y in front of the green just left of center. A stronger wind day and I would have been effed.

ah yes, 8 indeed. Going to be interesting to see how the pace of play holds up there…waiting for the green to clear and then the longish walk back to 9 tee…idk.

But as for fun factor…it hits.

my only minor complaint thinking back is I believe both par 3s are the same yardage? I suppose wind and pin positions might change your club, but think I pulled the same one for both.

Change of dates on my Bay Area trip and I’m now scheduled to play Pasa on 11/3 at 12pm. It’s a hot deal on golf now, $250 if anyone wants to join me. Would love a local sherpa

Best place to play near SLO? Monarch Dunes + Challenge course? Morro Bay? Avila Beach? Likely going to pop in somewhere on the way back from SoCal next month. Previously played La Purisima, likely further south than I’m looking since wife will be hanging with a friend in SLO and dropping me off/picking me up

Monarch Dunes is the gem, if you only have one round play Monarch. Super fun. Cypress Ridge is fun but I don’t remember it much. Morro bay is fun, beautiful but kinda simple, front 9 has awesome holes (9 is by far the best hole, especially at sunset) but pace of play can be a challenge. If you can make it up to paso, hunter ranch is also great.
Dairy creek is a decent 9 hole course. Avoid Chalk mountain. Don’t bother with blacklake

I’ve never played Avila Beach but heard it’s okay, inland 9 isn’t as good as waterfront 9

Just saw this about a Member For A Day at TPC Stonebrae TPC Stonebrae CC - Golf Moose.

BTW, would appreciate it if I could get some follows for golfthebay.info on facebook and/or Twitter. Not sure what’s going to become of it but I have to start somewhere. Thanks.

Hey, y’all. Many of you participated in last year’s NorCal NIT Qualifier, Chunks at the Chuck, in Alameda. We’re looking to run it back in 2022, likely in March again!

Posted a thread today to get the ball rolling. Updates will be made there. If you’re interested in joining the Flock for a day out at Corica Park, instructions are found here: 2022 Chunks at the Chuck, Proposal for THE Northern California NIT Qualifier

Unfortunately no takers this time. Fun afternoon despite not playing exceptional. Finished in about 3:50 so was able to get the full 18 in. With the days about to be much shorter there’s probably going to be less guest tee times available but might have another opening in the next week or so.

Introducing myself - Lived in Bay Area for last 8 years, Oakland for 4.

9 times out of 10 I’m playing Corica South, but happy to travel for some new experiences, there are a handful in the Bay I haven’t hit yet. North course is fun as well, would’ve been fun if it opened a little earlier this year.

Looking forward to seeing you out there, hit me up if you want to coordinate some play.

Cheers,
Shane
