Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

Can’t take the bait, haven’t played chabot.

Tilden has some holes I’d like a word with, though.

I just read about the par 6 at Chabot and now I’m thinking of trying to play there Sunday lol

It’s certainly something. Easily the worst hole I’ve ever played.

I know some people like Chabot, and there are some holes that are not awful, but as bad as 18 is, there are plenty of other holes there that are real bad, too.

Like the back to back par 5s on the front that are identical for example? Down the hill drive, ridiculous steep uphill approach. repeat. I birdied both of them and still hate them they’re that bad,

It’s a piece of land that shouldn’t be a golf course…period.

Literally the two holes I think about (negatively) when folks suggest playing.

This sounds so bad I feel that I need to experience it just to be in on the joke

Posted this in the Pasa or Pebble thread, cross posting here for visibility:

How doable is it to snag a tee time at Pasa a week out? Shooting for a Wed/Thur round around the holidays (1-3 people)? Is it worth the extra ~10% to just lock in a tee time now?

Did y’all play at The Ranch in SJ while it was still around? That place was nightmare fuel. Worst course I’ve ever seen.

#2 at the ranch was brutal

Not sure how it’ll be around the holidays but as I sit here looking at tee times now, next Thursday is wide open. I would think weekdays will be less of an issue than the weekend.

Last time I played there, it was really dry. On the second par 5, my buddy hit his second shot short of the green and it rolled 100 yards back down to the road. Then, he came up short again, and same thing happened. He picked up and said he’s never playing there again haha.

My biggest annoyance there has been no walking rate since COVID. I would’ve jumped out there for nostalgia’s sake, but I’m not paying $50ish to play there when it’s been it not great shape from what I’ve heard.

@greebs is being a little snobby! C’mon Matty! While the course is not great and there are some janky holes, WE the People who don’t plan our golf too far ahead and not a member of a club can at least get out there. Plus if Carlotta is in her shed? Look out! Bloody Marys in 16oz cups that are mostly vodka, cold beers, her famous hot dog bacon burger, and her laugh (which you can hear from 3 holes away) is worth it. Is it the best golf? Nope. But, sometimes, just sometimes, it’s the best we got!

I’ll bring the wine!!

Yes, Tod is right (and that hurts me to say), any golf is better than no golf. Curious that all the highlights you mention have nothing to do with the course itself.

I should actually probably not offer too many opinions on a course I haven’t played in 10-12 years, maybe longer.

Carlotta is fantastic.

My thoughts in a pic:

I had an albatross on 18 and it remains the worst/dumbest hole I’ve ever played in my life. deeply sorry if I’ve mentioned this already lol. Visiting Carlotta is the primary reason for going up to Chabot at this point

I (a) enjoyed Cabot and (b) acknowledge it is extremely stupid. The goats were interesting though.
