Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

Honestly tiny homes make sense around here given how expensive real estate is but I can’t say I’ve seen one or a collection of some anywhere. Sorry. If you do get one make sure it’s not too tiny for a set of golf clubs!

I’ve never played here and it’s near the top of my Northern California public course “need to play” list. And it’s not a$150 green fee which is nice ($92with a cart on weekend mornings).

And only 35 min from Northwood. Easy and fun 27 hole day for under $140 if one were so inclined.

We did this for my bday in 2018. Bodega am, Northwood lunch / and actually did two loops. Plenty of time.

That’s so great to hear. And yea, Northwood. Very blessed to have both in the backyard.

I was also at Bodega during the week on business and met two couples on a golf trip from Nebraska. Monterey to Bodega Bay…They’ve played golf all over the country, and said that Bodega, for the money, was one of the better experiences they’ve ever had. Guy called it Monterey and Kiawah on a bluff.

For me it’s a haven. Tons of quirk laid into a truly breathtaking piece of coastline. All the challenges are very dissimilar which creates a fairly formidable test; with or without the wind. It’s also $10-$15 less to walk/hike. But its a hell of a hike with the ocean in full view on every hole. The super is adding in new little quirks all the time too.

Also… download their app… which sucks… but you’ll have the coupon for 50% off replays.

Strongly considering this double play for a RACDG event next year.

If anyone from the Bay is looking for a Valley game next week:

My regular foursome also did the Bodega Bay morning / Northwood twilight combo a couple months back, STRONG recommend !

I’m considering getting one or two iron sets stripped to a raw finish. Has anyone around here done this before? I’ve looked in my immediate area and can’t find anyone.

Having read what it takes to strip chrome finish correctly, I have zero desire to attempt it myself.

Not sure how local this is for you but he is great and reasonable and I’ve used him a few times to strip irons

I’ll keep this in mind! It’s about a two hour drive each way for me coming from Livermore, but if I don’t find something closer I might get in touch and see if I can ship the heads.

Hey guys, I’m headed to the Bay Area/Monterey tomorrow from Detroit.

Only spending one day in San Francisco - Sunday before a 10pm flight home. What are some spots my fiancé and I need to see or places to eat?

Doing training in Monterey on Friday and Saturday for First Tee so I won’t have much time for golfing. Only one tee time at Spanish bay on Thursday

I love Spanish Bay… getting ahead of it before others bag!!!

Assuming you’re flying out of SFO. Get Strapped and gritty and play Gleneagles. If you’re looking for bucket list… get up stupid early Sunday and play Pasatiempo.

Others may have better rec’s for the Peninsula… Good luck though brother. Have fun. Please play the back 9 at Pacific Grove if possible.

For food or other. It’d be tough for me not to recommend just driving the coast to Half Moon Bay and crushing it at the Ritz…

Played there a couple of times (family in SR makes it a good day trip from the South Bay) and I really like Bodega, but I’m tortured by how good it could have been on that property if it wasn’t such a subdivision course for about 14 holes.

Does anyone have an recommendations for getting a club fitting?

Thinking about getting my Dad a new driver plus a fitting but want to go somewhere that is legit and has lots of options from each manufacturer.

Depending on where you live, Kepler’s has a great reputation from what I’ve heard. If they see the numbers from the newer stuff aren’t that different from your current stuff, they just recommend lessons :stuck_out_tongue:

He’s in Cupertino but I’d think he could drive a little for a good fitting. He’s retired lol.

Been to Kepler’s but did not love it. Now, I could not recommend Alameda Golf Works any higher. Big Sean (yes, there is a little sean) and the boys are the best. You will need to book ahead, but it is so worth it. Had my neighbor go and he was still talking about the experience weeks later.

Book it and enjoy!

Thank you!!

Even if something is highly rated, I always look for the lowest ratings and the reasons for them. If there are any dealbreakers there, I usually will avoid. What was the issue at Kepler’s?

I did a driver fitting recently at Cool Clubs at Mariner’s Point with Grayson. I thought it was great and would recommend. Yes, its expensive. Yes, they only have aftermarket upgrade shafts to test. I tried a bunch of shafts with heads from Ping, TM, Callaway, Titleist. The trackman numbers don’t lie and the best fit for me was not the most expensive option. I didn’t feel pressured to buy from them then and there. He also looked at the stock OEM offerings and pointed out which he thought would be the most similar to what he fit me into, if I would rather just buy it myself. You get all the data to take home and make a decision. I ended up ordering the custom build from them because I knew that after going through the fitting, if I bought the stock shaft every time I hit a bad drive I would wonder what would have happened if I went custom. Now I can only blame my swing. Let me know if you have any questions.
