What up y’all, I’m going to be in the area for a wedding in Tahoe from September 29 to October 6th. It will be my first time back since moving from the area in the beginning of 2018. I lived there for about 3 years and really got bit by the golf bug while living there. I lived in various places in the east bay Oakland before moving back home (Indiana) with my now wife. While I got around to many courses in the area, there are two that I absolutely HAVE to get to.
My biggest regret was not playing pasa. I spent a handful of weekends in Santa Cruz, but never for golf and since moving back I’ve been itching. Definite no brainer to play there and if there’s only one round I can play it will be here.
For 2 years I lived 5 minutes from Corica park and it had a big impact on me getting into the game. The access to the lighted range and the par 3 course we’re excellent, however the entirety of the time I played there the south course was closed for renovations. I beat the north course to death, but am excited to see how the south course turned out. Definitely interested in some reviews from the locals on this one.
Might be able to sneak in a third round if anyone has the time. I’ll have a better idea of when and where I’ll be playing as the time grows nearer, but looking forward to potentially linking with a refuge member or two. Definitely wish the refuge was around when I lived there.
You will absolutely LOVE the South course. Probably my favorite course in the East Bay. If you search this thread, someone made the mistake of hating on it a bit, and got politely ganged up on. I haven’t been out there in a few months, but it usually plays fast and firm, it’s pretty open, but greens are quick-ish and tricky. As it gets closer, let me know when your thinking of playing, and I’ll see if I can make it work. I’ve been itching to get back there since I moved through the tunnel from Berkeley.
If you get a Corica S tee time you’ll have no prob getting a few of us to join.
Good deal. I’ll post again when I have a better idea of schedule. Is the north closed down for a facelift now? I thought that was the plan, but plans change.
I’ll have to read back through to see everyone’s opinions on the south. Everyone loves to shit on the Jones last name, but poor craftsmanship doesn’t last.
Yes the North has been shut for awhile but they apparently will open the front nine shortly and the whole course by January or so. Photos look siiiiiick
Hell yes. Would love to get a few holes in on the north. One of the handful of courses I attribute my golf affliction to.
Easy question… are you flying into Reno; or Oakland/SF?
I only ask because as you may recall, those 2 courses are 3.5-8 hours away from Tahoe depending on traffic conditions…but cannot fault you for wanting to get on there.
As you’re travelling, I feel like it may be worth your time to write a letter to https://clearcreektahoe.com/ and politely ask the Head Golfing Professional for the opportunity. Coore Crenshaw…
and also https://glenbrookclub.com/
All they can do is ignore you…
I’ve heard from many friends who have played that Clear Creek is the balls.
Definitely try there.
Flying into OAK, staying at our friends place in Dublin for the night and heading up to squaw Thursday morning. There through Sunday morning and coming back. I think we’re either apartment hopping at our old friends/coworkers places around the area or getting an airbnb after that, but haven’t yet decided.
I am going to be in a wedding in Monterey next year and am trying to figure out how much golf I can squeeze in. I already have a Thursday morning tee time for Pebble with a few of the guys. Should we go for the full 36 and try and play Spyglass that afternoon as well? I could also probably skip the sendoff brunch and get a late flight out on Sunday after the wedding if I wanted to do two days of golf.
Spyglass is great and worth playing. Not usually too busy either.
If you’re going to do Spyglass (and sounds like you might be able to squeeze in Spanish Bay the next day) and you have 3 other guys that would do it with you, I would get the Dukes Club membership. Split the cost between 4 people and it would pay for itself with just Spyglass, but you also get a great discount on Spanish Bay, too.
If you can get away with skipping the brunch (I couldn’t remotely tell you who was or wasn’t at mine), do it. They’re getting married in Monterey, they have to know folks will want to play golf!
Pebble & Spy 36, skip brunch, Pasatiempo on your way out if it’s convenient for your flight. If not, still skip brunch and play elsewhere in Monterey.
Skip wedding. Skip brunch.
Play golf.
Hey! My buddy had to cancel for our Friday game so I’ve got an opening for a single at Corica South on Friday. Tee time is 10:12AM.
Let me know if anyone wants to join.
I will cancel on Thursday morning if I don’t get a taker here.
Non golf question: Anyone familiar or have any tips about tiny homes in the area? Im moving to Fairfield in January and want to explore the option. Thanks
Obviously it is and always has been hotter than Hades everywhere else… but until the last year or two Petaluma has never really experienced that sweltering stuff.
I’ve always thought to be blessed to live so near the ocean and have Bodega Harbor to get away to. Played 18 last night and walked. My old iphone 4 can’t take pictures anymore… but it was unreal. If anyone wants to escape the heat and get away, happy to join up in the coming months.
And I drove the green on 16 for the first time. Couldn’t believe it.
