Welcome to the area. Although not directly tied to the NLU gang, the Royal & Ancient Company of Dishonourable Golfers is a wee society thst was born on this message board.
We have an active Northern California chapter, are having our 2nd Annual Fleming Cup matches in a few weeks at pacific grove and are looking to do some exciting, fun stuff in the future.
Our IG is @racdg_norcal where we post a lot of info. We also have a very active WhatsApp group chat. If you guis are interested in joining (it’s free) just shoot me a message and I’ll get you all set up.
Whoa. If he did so in the mid 1990s (remember, and never forget, I’m old as dirt) I for sure bought drinks off of him. Great mac and cheese, great chicken fried chicken, meatloaf, so many other good things. I used to have a t-shirt from there that just listed awesome things on the back. Something like, “Cold Beer, Fried Chicken, Elvis Presley” and maybe one other thing with zero context. Miss that t-shirt.
I might call them to see if you can book a single over the phone. Also, from my experience, there’s no credit card hold on tee times, so you could just book the twosome online and then call to cancel one.
ETA: I hope you can find someone to play with though, too.
Played Northwood for the first time this past weekend (actually played in 3x in 24hrs). Such a cool course, makes me want to buy a house up there haha. Only negative is that they were watering the shit out of it, so it played slow and the greens were shaggy. I heard it often plays slow. Its a shame, that course would be amazing if it played firm and fast. But loved all the movement and mounding the course had, you can definitely tell it was a MacKenzie.
It was very nice of my pregnant wife to allow this to take up so much time during our little Russian River get away.
The greens up there are still shaped amazingly but yeah, I don’t think they are ever in good shape. It’s a shame but I will say that the budget to get it into that shape would almost certainly change the vibe and price in a major way.
Yeah same last week when we were there. I think there’s a couple things happening - one of which is the obvious location being in a literal bend in the Russian river. Place floods on occasion. (Not this yr obviously).
The trees shade the grass which can create issues for growth. Meaning they prob have to take care not to get too aggressive with them.
But oh the vibes. And yeah, I think everyone that plays there is like…”how much for that house on 3 green?”
Wow dude we must’ve been crossing paths all weekend! Also got in 27 at Northwood as the finale of a Chardonnay/Presidio/Northwood tournament this weekend. The charm of the course still gets me every time. Incredibly good vibes on the course met with equal and opposite bad vibes at the restaurant, never fails to disappoint. Let’s all pitch in and buy the house on 3 green together, Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers HQ
Hahaha that’s awesome. I remember seeing you guys behind us. The foursome ahead of us was crazy slow. One of those “hey we should try golf today” type of groups lol.
I’m the Director of Sales for a Brewery in Sebastopol… either Goat Rock or the heirloom stuff in a bottle that Golden State offers. No, not the stuff they offer in every grocery store in California. Might give you some new options is all.
Hey everyone! Just moved out to Napa in the past couple weeks from the swamp aka Jupiter, FL to do the wine thing. Don’t really know a ton of people over here so would love to try and get some rounds in with some refugees. From the little research ive done Chardonnay GC looks to be the spot to play closest to me but I’m open to play wherever.
Welcome! Quite a different climate than that Jupe Lyfe.
Chardonnay is quite fun, Eagle Vines next door is harder and less interesting but also worth playing. (Note - they all used to be the same property with half of it being private, then it was sold off to make two public courses.)
Closer to you there are some great courses in Santa Rosa that, especially with the awful drought, should be playing well. Bennett Valley is the top of that list. Also some good private courses, of course.
