Roll Call: Austin/San Antonio

Thanks @Jdonelson, looking forward to getting out there in a few weeks

Hello Austin folks!

Coming down for a bachelor trip pretty soon, staying just south of downtown. Any course recs outside of the munis that would be within 20 minutes or so of an Uber ride? Thanks!

The Quarry was awesome when I played in December.

Heading to San Antonio for the weekend with the wife. Playing TPC (Canyons) tomorrow morning and Brackenridge Saturday morning. Any tips/expectations to keep in mind?

Pack some rain gear for tomorrow morning. Very wet here right now. Brack on a Saturday morning is going to be packed but it’s worth it.

Get lunch at The Smoke Shack just up Broadway after playing Breckenridge, and if the weather is nice get it to go and eat outside at The Pigpen (bar next door owned by the same family).

Best brisket in SA.

Played Brack on Saturday. The greens roll true, but don’t have much grass on them. Don’t expect there to be any rough either.

4 holes into Brackenridge and it might be perfect

Short of the green is always a better miss than long at TPC because of the limestone. Otherwise have fun and pray the winds aren’t too bad!

Nevermind I’m an idiot, you played there yesterday lol

No worries. I was both long and short plenty of times. Sometimes on the same hole

Also this is sick

The first few times I played Brack I hated the tree (I even bitched about it in the “Worst golf holes” thread) but I love it now. It’s a chance for a 6,200 yard course to give golfers the middle finger.

Brack is gorgeous, i love the trees. Its the kind of place your wife won’t mind hanging out with you while you golf.

Seems relevant that there was a massive Omega Psi Phi scramble there today and the vibes were off the charts. Great place to be. Great foil to the TPC experience.

Got 10.2 holes in yesterday at Riverside. Grew up in Austin and neglected this track with Kizer/Clay being the default - Its pretty beat up but is a fun layout and welcomed Monday afternoon range replacement for $31. Some absolutely SICK pin placements (manageable since areas with grass were only rolling 8-9)

The fairways are usually an absolute mess, but the greens are decent, and the walk is nice. For sure underrated.

Hey I’m headed to Austin for a bachelor party and we are looking to play some golf. I think we are planning on playing Averys Ranch and Falcon Head.

Is there any other courses that are I should look into?

where are you staying and how much are you willing to spend?

those courses are both fine, but are plagued with pace of play issues, so there’s a smattering of other options that may be more enjoyable

Ahh, thanks for the heads up.

We are staying in an Airbnb in the Ford Oaks area.

Looking to keep it under $100.

Is Grey Rock any good? (I need to book 3 rounds Thursday - Saturday, and I appreciate any reccomendation, I had us penceled in for the 3 courses I mentioned)

Grey Rock is decent. If you were willing to drive up to Avery Ranch, I would do Star Ranch or Forest Creek over Avery.
