Roll Call: Austin/San Antonio

Saying this differently, unless whatever package you may have necessitates playing out there, then definitely play the Crenshaw and Canyons, and I’d choose Foothill and/or replaying one of these 3 again for a total of 4 rounds to simply avoid the 2 hours of additional logistics time. I cannot fathom a world where the Palmer course is so much better than Foothills that the travel time is worth it. The one time I played it 3 months ago it was a nicely maintained, completely forgettable 1990’s housing development course with Palmer’s named slapped on it.

The Bandit in New Braunfels is sweet.

Would you say it’s better than Kissing Tree, La Cantera or Quarry?

I prefer it to Quarry but La Canterra is a must play in San Antonio. Not to say Quarry is bad but I think the back 9 at Quarry is much better than the front. Front is fairly forgettable tbh.

Never played Kissing Tree, so can’t comment on that. Have heard good things just haven’t gotten out. But I think if you’re already driving to San Marcos it’s worth taking a look at the Bandit imo.

Let me know if you need any other recommendations, been going to that areas for a long time.

I’d play Quarry over the other 3 courses all day. Would probably rank them…
Quarry
La Cantera

Kissing Tree
Bandit

That’s valid. Just thought it was worthy of mention. Can’t really go wrong with any of those 4.

For BC I would go Canyons, Foothills, Crenshaw and Lakeside in that order. But all of them are enjoyable.

This is the right answer. Foothills gets weirdly negative reviews from people, and I can’t understand why. Maybe because they expect it to be some major-championship style life-changing course, which it isn’t. But it’s better than Crenshaw by a wide margin (and I LOVE the Crenshaw course), and it’s a serious, serious test of golf in a fantastically pretty setting, generally with above-average conditions.

Honestly, all three of the on-property courses are great. I suspect that your favorite might just be “the one you played first.” Play all three of them, give Lakeside a miss, and enjoy the time.

Hey guys new to the nest but not No Laying Up. Took a while for me to finally join. Local to New Braunfels Area. How do I find the local events and roost chapters here?

SUP! The Strohs have you covered … join our Discord server here - STROH's. Discord can be overwhelming if you aren’t familiar, but it’s just a big chat app where everyone hangs out.

Start by reading the #strohs-announcements channel top-to-bottom, to get a sense of how we run events and such. There’s a slightly easier to read calendar at https://strohs.club, too.

Our January event still has space - check out the #texas-two-step channel for details (click the pinned items option to read the event header, or just scroll all the way to the top). Dates, times, format all there, as well as a registration link.

Welcome @Gunfighter !

Thanks @Jdonelson appreciate the help pointing me in the right direction.

Anyone want to play tomorrow afternoon?

Hey Gang,

Will be in Austin Feb 23rd - 28th for work. Looking to get 1 round in Tuesday the 25th. Will be with one of my co-workers whos a lower mid cap.

Going through this thread and a few others Lion’s Muni seems to be an option. Previously mentioned in an earlier post of mine was Hancock and Morris Williams.

Will be staying at The Westin at the Domain (whatever that is). Unsure of what is close to that.

Hey y’all. Lifelong Texan and long time Austin resident and have followed NLU a while and looking for golfers in the area. I tried joining the discord for Strohs but all the links are expired. Any other way for a hacker like me to get involved?

Gotchu! STROH's

The Domain is a fair bit north of those courses, but if you have access to a car, any of those three are great options. Hancock is a walking only 9 hole course, just in case that’s an issue. A more casual pitch and putt is Butler, near downtown.

We are doing butler. Just looking to down a few beers and hit some spicy chipper shots
