the event itself was a blast, the tv coverage…much less so
How is the resort course at La Cantera? I just saw that they closed (permanently?) the Palmer which I’ve played before and liked.
I haven’t played it in probably 10 years but it was a fun track. The back nine has a hole or two that runs right next to Six Flags roller coaster, which is fun.
The resort course is fun. It’s always in good shape and there’s a bunch of elevation changes. You probably won’t lose a bunch of balls out there either.
Kizer sucks out loud. Always has. Shitty attempt at a links design by the guy who ran the golf department at the time to try to make a name for himself as an architect. Am confused by the Muny hate in this forum. I am prejudiced on the topic but there a few better walks in central Texas.
Nonsensical take here. Lions is a turd sandwich in comparison to clay or kizer. Preferring lions to anything In town is TUUFFF.
I admitted I was biased. I was the pro at Muny in the 90’s. Muny was about vibe and community. I haven’t played it in a few years so that could have changed. I hope not. There is just no reason to play Clay or Kizer. Uninspired, mediocre golf with no soul. When did you move to Austin?
Moved here 5 years ago and that definitely plays a part in my opinion. But lions, while character is there, it’s just in horrendous shape year round. Greens awful. #1 fairway is usually washed out with rocks at the dog leg.
Yes, kizer is a bit of a pasture. However, it has reasonably challenging holes, a good handshake hole off of #1, and a good practice space.
Am afraid the maintenance issues at Muny are contract related. The city isn’t interested in spending money on it if they are going to lose it. Clay > Kizer even after the lame renovation at Clay. Austin public golf is really not very good, tbh. It’s a shame.
Mo Willy is better than all of them.
All of them are terrible, but you gotta dance with one that brought ya. Mo Willie used to be terrible, and they’ve vastly improved their maintenance. Agree with the Lions money issues too. They’re not going to put any more money into than they have to before we “save muny for good.”

THE HOTTEST OF MESSES.
The first time I went out to Mo Willy, I was shocked how good it was. The next time was after The Freeze, and things were terrible. Hear things got sorted out, though, excited about seeing it again.
The push-pull of Austin golf, and the challenge of running 70k rounds through a course to support demand. Conditions have varied this widely for all of my 43 years living here.
Really good shape right now, as long as you are good with fully dormant. Firm and fast.
Kizer played awesome this weekend. They finally mowed the greens and the fairways are dormant. Had a couple of 270 drives turn into 310+, good artificial ego inflator.

Been in the Lakeway area for a couple years now and I started to venture out to courses in other areas recently. Forest Creek and Falconhead have been in pretty good shape the last couple times I played. Any other spots you guys have been playing lately?
