There is only one option

Staying right by Mercedes Benz. Willing to drive up to an hour.

perfect. You’re right of 75/85 and there is a beautiful and perfect golf course just a few miles off I-85.

what is it called?

Peachtree

Isn’t that extremly private? We are country club members but I don’t think our pro will be able to swing that.

haha yes. There’s many Atl Refugees who have spent their lives in the Atlanta’s golf circle and never sniffed the place.

What @jan42dk and @apmiller are referring to is The Fields, also off I-85 but about an hour and 15 from Atlanta. It’s debatably the best public course in the state and def in the top 3. There are many many options of poor value. Best options are probably Cobblestone, Echelon, Browns Mill, and Cherokee Run. Others might oppose this take.

My Friday is currently open so if you guys want company we could try to find a fourth

As a former resident of Eugene Oregon, I really want to blow off work and be the 4th.

You have any other recommendations? The Fields sounds great, just trying to check out all of our options.

Sorry in advance for the grown men that will bark in your face.

The ones listed above are solid enough - Atlanta public Golf is very hit or miss depending tee time and your willingness to drive 20mins-1hour. (Not much “in the city”)

Echelon is my favorite of the ones listed but it’s prob a similar drive up to that part of town as it is to the fields from anywhere near the Benz.

I’ll rank my personal fav public courses in order from worth your money and drive, to fuck this 5 hour round.

Fields
Echelon
Riverpines
Cherokee Run
Bridge Mill
Cobblestone
Traditions of Braselton
Browns Mill
Marietta City Club
Callahan
Heritage
Smokerise
Bobby Jones

Happy to answer any other questions - I have to move that morning otherwise I’d host you at my club.

Ya know - you could also go to Athens and play UGA course too

I grew up 10 minutes from the UGA course and it is sick, would recommend. I would probably recommend the Fields over UGA from a purely golf perspective, but if you wanted to kick around Athens some Friday to get a feel for the town and grab some breakfast before golf (the Mayflower) or lunch (cali n Tito’s or the Place) and beers (Creature Comforts) after that could be a solid move. Personally, I’d rather spend my Friday in Athens (despite being an Atlanta resident) but I’m also a noted big city hater.

@golfingossett and I have a match to play on Sunday, please don’t get him all riled up with talk of the Fields
Just breathe partner

I would have offered to cover all the green fees if it meant he had to play the match at the fields

Having never been to Atlanta, I would recommend prioritizing seeing Atlanta, food and the overall weekend experience. A lot of good courses have been recommended, I would not suggest driving 1-2 hours round trip to play any of these courses in the suburbs.

Play Bobby Jones. 9 holes. Loop it twice. In the city. Good food there and nearby to a laundry list of other highly recommendable food and beverage options.
