This was worth the wait! Well done. Can’t wait for the merch.
Local Minnesotan here scouting out potential golf trips for end of February. I plead ignorance if this is a dumb question but how is golfing in Atlanta/Georgia end of February/beginning of March?
Any tips/course recs would be appreciated. Currently thinking of flying in, playing 18 in Atlanta and then either driving to Aiken or The Fields for 36.
Hey I’m a Minnesota transplant and live northeast of Atlanta.(Moved in 98’ bc my dad was tired of the snow)
Golf courses will be soft for the most part. End of February and early March typically are very rainy.
Bobby Jones or Browns Mill are the best public options close to downtown. Almost all the good public golf is north of the city.
Second the browns mill choice. It’s close to the airport and you can jump right back on the road if you’re headed to the fields or Aiken.
Anyone here plotting their assault of qualifying for the GSGA mid-am this year?
I was just going to as about US Mid AM and if anyone has played GSU course in Stateboro? Is it going to be a birdie fest down there or is it a tough track?
Unless you just really want to come down here, I would go somewhere else with better (and more predictable) weather and better golf.
Kinda second this. I’d also probably squeeze in an extra round at the fields or aiken and skip the atlanta public round
It’s more of a budget golf trip. Lots of my friends have a tough time justifying spending the cash so looking for affordable. Atlanta just has a lot of flights out of Minnesota and Atlanta.
Not so much the mid-am, but I was planning a below average flank attack on some of the GSGA’s one day events to go see some new tracks this year
Southern’s course is a lot of fun. Definitely has the chance to be a birdie fest, but only if you are accurate off the tee… a lot of trouble to the left and right of fairways. And because it’s houses built all around it, A LOT of white stake OBs that really feel like they should not be OB.
Immaculate conditioning.
Echo the others about Atlanta golf not being great. Presumably though if you are willing to make the drive the 2+ hours to Aiken that would open up other options from a similar distance from Atlanta like Sweetens, Suwanee, Old Toccoa Farm and probably others. That said if you are set on budget golf a 36 hole day at Aiken or the Fields will be cheaper than just about anywhere and very enjoyable
Yeah this same group drove down to Sweetens last year and got rained out. We were scheduled to go originally in March of 2020 and obviously got squashed with Covid. So another reason for Atlanta is the VERY off chance that we are able to scoop up some Sweeten’s day passes but we aren’t holding our breath
Edit: The round in Atlanta would be an afternoon round just getting off of the plane so I know its not great but also not golfing since October, bad golf is better than no golf hahaha!
Browns Mill isn’t a great course by any means, but its a cheap public course close to you. I believe White Oak in Newnan is public (could be wrong), and it’s not far.
@jan42dk and I are playing riverpines tomorrow at 1:30 if anyone wants to join let me know.
