Roll Call: Alabama (Spring Match Play and March Event Info - Post #815)

I’d love to help start a roost for our Bama guys! Like I said, we’ve got a big group of guys, around 200 in our groupme as of now, so we could get things going quickly.

I’m a part of our Good Guys Tour board of directors and I’ll bring it to them and see if they’d be interested, as well as how we could do so for the best of our awesome golf community. I’m not sure how roost formations go but whether we make the Good Guys an official roost or not I’d love to get involved with some Refuge community and play with some guys. Any of y’all that are local, I’d love to meet up and play sometime soon!

There won’t be any Roost realignments until next year, at which point you would fill out a Roost application after you and I can duel in the streets because I’d be gutted to lose our Bama boys.

All jokes aside, would love to get more folks involved and blow up the Bama chapter of the High Cotton Club! The goal has always been to serve the fine folks of Alabama, and I think we’re set to do it more than ever between our regional realignment into the Deep South with Peachtree and Splash and the events set ahead of us

In that case I’ll start working on my quick draw and prepare for a battle to the death…or at least a friendly match.

Yeah, I’m game however to get involved. Like I said, we’ve already got a great community that loves the game and to just have a good time so to me if we were able to merge for the betterment of all, I’m 100% game. We’ll keep our 10 tournament season going because we all love some friendly competition but if we are able to have it officially sanctioned by the NLU, then I feel like that’s a win for all. More opportunities for refuge guys to get together and more opportunities/benefits for the Good Guys Tour (aka GGT).

I found the roost application thread and will speak to my fellow board members for future GGT regulations to we can implement to meet the set standards. I mean what kind of tour tries to bypass the set standards, blow up the ecosystem, and act like they should run the show….I can’t imagine that someone would ever do that…that not so subtle joke aside, I do want to make sure it’d be for the best of all and done through the proper channels. I’d be happy to speak to whoever that has best knowledge of it all to strategize the potential opportunity.

If any spots open up for this weekend at Limestone, I’d love to try to make it. I missed the signup since I hadn’t been very regular on the thread before but would be interested in coming out. Just let me know,

Shoot me a DM and I’ll get you sorted!

Today is January 3 and I’m back at work. Lucky to get to have played golf on Monday and Tuesday! It was so hot I couldn’t hunt so I enjoyed the warm weather on the link. Hope my guys from the HCC have a blast at the Overlook. See everyone soon!

Yellowhammers! As The High Cotton Club prepares for the return of our signature event, The High Cotton Classic, we’ve put together an outline for the event to host a bracket in your fine state.

The match play style event kicks off during The Masters, and offers 16 days to schedule/play each match at a mutually agreed upon venue. Matches are played using 75% of USGA handicaps, locked in at the beginning of Group Play, and reset in the Knockout Round… That’s right, you’re guaranteed more than one match and an opportunity for redemption if you have a bad day.

This event helped shape the mold of our Roost through the feedback of our competitors, and the contributions of our esteemed Rules Committee members. That being said, this event has shaped into a merch-a-palooza featuring the best swag the High Cotton Club has to offer…

Entry fee for this event is $205, includes the following, and features cash payouts for Group winners and our top finishers (amount TBD by field size):

  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Hat
  • Bag tag
  • Ball Marker
  • Divot tool
  • Custom HCC Nextbelt

That’s almost $300 worth of swag, plus a donation to the High Cotton Relief Fund, and a chance to claim your spot next to @GolfinMoose as High Cotton Champions in the state of Alabama. Can we get 8 guys signed up for their chance at The High Cotton Classic? I believe we can!

*Competitors will also earn entry into The Grissom Cup, formerly known as The High Cotton Cup, our Roost’s Ryder Cup style event, which will benefit the children of the member we lost earlier this year.

Just re-sharing this post again in hopes of getting some more involvement. Signups are still open for a great event that runs through the spring golf season. This is a great opportunity to get involved in one of the best NLU roosts in the land!

Signups have been adjusted to reflect those who have already paid their entry fees… it’s a sprint to 8 and a race to 12. One week left to register!

I would like to play if there’s still room.

New to the thread, but checking in from Hoover. I recently began seriously trying to improve my game. Moved to Alabama a couple years back and haven’t been able to find a group that consistently gets together around here. If anyone has a open spot on a weekend I’d love to join your group for a round.

If you’re ever looking for a crew to play with I’m a part of a group we call the Good Guys Tour and we play once a month all over. We have one tournament per month, mostly around Birmingham, but also have guys get together on a regular basis to play outside of that. If you’re up for it, just DM me and I can get your contact info and plugged in. We’ve got 200 guys in our GroupMe and normally have about 40 guys play each month.

Tournaments vary in format. We had our first event of the season this last Saturday at Oxmoor and it was a 2 man fourball event. We a had 40 play and other than the weather being crappy it went great.

I’d recommend getting plugged into the Roost as well though. I haven’t been able to get to an event yet but look forward to “getting involved” even more soon enough.

A great way for you guys to get involved with the roost is to sign up for our Bama bracket of the High Cotton Classic. A match play event, got a couple spots left we would love to fill and only a day or so to do it in. It’s a great event to be able to meet some of the guys and have some friendly competition.

Welcome in @CoachMal11 :handshake:

Like @HHSBallCoach said, the Roost for the area is a great way to get involved. Not only do we bring some events to your neck of the woods, Alabama members are actually some of our most frequent participants in what we call jackpots — member run games for points where you get 10 points every time you show up. It’s super easy to get involved with these through our discord, where pretty much anyone can find a thread they enjoy haha

The Classic has reached 12, and with 2 on the waitlist, we only need 2 more players to reach a full field… #getinvolved :bangbang:

Hey all, sorry to highjack the thread and go completely off topic but I’m driving from Kansas to Destin and staying in Mobile/Daphne on 5/29/23. Trying to avoid having to be around my in-laws for a few more hours before Florida… I have a tee time at Timbercreek early in the morning on 5/30/23 if anyone is interested in playing and showing a flatlander around the course a bit. DM me if your interested and I’ll send you the details.
