Return of the “Ope”-in - August 18th and 19th 2023: The Battle for Stattis

“Ope, just gonna sneak past ya there” is a glaring omission from this list

Can confirm, not a thing in South Carolina

Used ope on a call when I shared the wrong window this morning. It’s absolutely a Midwestern thing, though.

Speaking of Ope! - should look at getting Ope Brewing to be the official beer of the Ope-in

I never get down to that part of greater Milwaukee, but the biggest issue would be having to have Oliphant and Ope work something out so we can have it at Lawsonia and I can very honestly say, I’m not doing that work.

Yeah I went to college in the south and I could give you a list of all the shit I said that my friends thought was nuts.

That street probably goes two ways!

How is Oliphant involved? They’re pretty close to me

They own/manage Lawsonia.

How the fuck did I not know that

Edit: I assumed Oliphant Companies is related to Oliphant Brewing, which may not be the case

They don’t really just shout it out everywhere. When you’re setting up an event and getting emails from somebody who has “Oliphant Companies” as part of the signature, it was harder to forget.

They also have a pretty decent footprint here with the construction side of things given they were involved in SV, MD, and the Lido among a bunch of others.

Is Oliphant Golf related to Oliphant Brewing?

Saw this shirt on a friend’s website (he’s also the graphic designer for Bad Habit Brewing in MN), and thought I’d share for this audience:

I don’t believe they are, but now I’m interested enough to dig in. If they are, I’m pretty sure that could be as easy as an email or 2 to make happen for this.

“Hey a bunch of golf sickos are coming to a course you manage, we want your beer there. Kthanksbye”

Based on the fact that it isn’t already there, and Oliphant Golf is based in Plover and the brewery is in Somerset (may as well be Idaho), I’m guessing they’re not. Could definitely be the weird middle child of the Oliphant family though

Research says not related. They are, however, a short* 3 hour drive apart.

*for those not in the Midwest, 3 hours is short, duel me

Just going out for a nice drive.

Two things I noticed specifically about Wisco Lingo… the use of “ope” and the addition of “yet” at the end of sentences, in substitution of “still”

The yet thing confuses me to no end and I’ve lived in Wisconsin for the majority of my life. If somebody who has some insight into that wants to chime in, I’m all for it.

Please use ‘yet’ in a sentence?
