Earlier this spring a Refugee posted in the mental health thread about being overwhelmed and going through a tough time.
After reading the post I couldn’t shake the notion of doing something to provide some respite. Simply put, I had very much lived through the experiences being described and know how much a gesture of kindness can mean in those times.
That is why I’m happy to let everyone know that the charity aspect of the 2023 Ope-in will be for @Battisstatus and the Gillette Children’s Hospital and it will be open to all in the form of Duck Races. Batty has been a phenomenally positive influence on this place between his welcome to the Nest posts, The Duck Race thread (RIP), facebook marketplace mastery for those needing blades, and appreciation for Tombstone.
As we approach the event details will be finalized, but in the mean time if you have something you want to duck race, please reach out to me.
Not to put @Battisstatus on blast, but to say it was exciting to tell him my little portion of all this today was amazing. I thank you for putting the idea out there!
@AlCzervik@midwestgolfbum and the many others who have been involved in setting this up , from the bottom of my heart, thank you,
My family and I are so incredibly grateful for the love and support you have all shown for us and the amazing people at Gillette.
I cannot put into words how appreciative I am for the people of the Refuge. I have said it in many threads but the community that exists here is unbelievable and something I am so proud to be a part of. You all continue to amaze me with what can be accomplished as a group working to support one another.
Fellow Midwesterners (or maybe nationwide?), is saying “ope” a Wisconsin thing or is it everywhere? I’m assuming I’ve done it my whole life, but have really noticed it picking up in the last 5 years or so…
Sorry if this has been covered in previous years for this event, but I can barely function at work after the holiday weekend, yet have the mental energy to think about my ope-usage.
