A suggested amount is good to have to level set expectations across the board of getting a nice gift for someone and not just unloading stuff you donât want that you bought previously or were gifted or whatever.
This blog isnât a place like Reddit or wherever else where you can get away with some scumbaggery or ghosting of a recipient without community shame and so, to me, it seems like a good thing to put forth a baseline for new folks or those of lesser financial means at the time to know what to aim for. Hell even people ending up strapped for time because life happens will at least have a price point to quickly shop at for their giftee.

This is going to sound trite but I think it can be summarized with, âuse your best judgment, donât be a scumbag.â To me, if you want to go a little above and beyond ($40 doesnât go very far these days), go for it. But definitely donât feel like you need to and if youâre not sure if participating is going to overextend you, donât. The point of this is definitely not to go into debt to bring a quasi-stranger a little joy.

While I get your sentiment, my thoughts are a bit different. This board, the events, the overall charitable aspect of the events have resulted in tons of real friendships.
People get matched with people they respect, and have built great relationships with. And if it results in gifts that are a bit more expensive, so be it. I always thought the limit was set in place to prevent folks from tossing a Dollar Tree back scratcher in a box and calling it a day.

A little tip I just realized - Office Depot can ship via FedEx or USPS if youâre worried at all about the post office lines on this lovely Saturday. Much quicker!
