This is unbelievable…
My gift finally shipped, anyone ever hear of GLS?
I’m glad you like them! Not being a bourbon gui, I tried to wade into those waters and get a nice bottle but I soon realized I was in the deep end and I didn’t know how to swim. So I committed mild copyright infringement and hoped that you liked them enough to not turn me in.
My AHCC hat showed up at the same time as the SS gift too!
I haven’t but I found their twitter account which has a strong following of 77 people. I’m sure it’ll be fiiiine.
Tremendous, surely nothing will go wrong
As a veteran of this place I hope I have some room to say this without too much blowback but feel free to give me shit if I’m crossing a line (and I don’t mean to call out anyone specifically)…
$ limits seem to be thrown out the window this year. Geaugolf headcovers, H&B items, not cheap bourbon… I appreciate people wanting to be generous but there’s a reason for the $ limit. Try to find value in that limit and if you go over by $10-20 that’s fine but rhere’s many reasons to be respectful to the limit.
I love this place and especially love this thread… not attacking anyone just my observation. Don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable
I got in from the airport yesterday at 1am and had a few things to take care of today, so apologies for the delayed post as I believe the parcel arrived while I was gone. Big thank you to @Douger23 for the awesome gifts! Glad to find a fellow LH fan, I didn’t have milk in the house but had to make a Yorkshire tea with the mug, here’s hoping we get more hammer time in 2024. This mug is absolutely going to be for morning tea with all of the early races.
The Lego O’s will find a home on my desk for sure! I’ve been meaning to look into how to construct a model of Camden Yards, now I really should get on that. The tiny logo on the hats is perfection. The beanie will see good use this winter both on and off the course, I have several of the on-field caps but never thought to get a beanie, the addition is much appreciated!
Random side-note, your surname is the same as my wife’s maiden name, it really threw us off when seeing the package. We think there is the possibility you are a long lost relative as you’re from the same region as her father, which would be nuts!
Not pictured is the hand-written note, and I will definitely take you up on the golf invite if I’m ever in your area! Thank you again and Merry Christmas!
Damn inflation! It’s all that got-danged Joe Brandon’s fault!
Refugees when given a suggested gift budget of $40
Being serious though, I would hope that anyone in a stressful financial situation does not feel pressured to spend more than $40. I know I didn’t really pay attention to the cost of the items in mine I just really wanted to send those things. Not so long ago I did not have the money to do that, so I understand that side too.
I think you are right to bring it up, but I think with a little empathy and consideration from all involved it can work without introducing a maximum limit or something like that.
I can’t speak for the others, but even if it wasn’t intended, this one seemed like a shoutout to me specifically.
FYI the H&B polo in mine was a BF sale item through everyone’s favorite small shop.
My total amount for the 4 items was definitely a good bit over the original $40 budget number, but given the direction I was provided when I asked about the budget and what I saw from the 2022 exchange (I didn’t participate), my total felt in line with the upper range of it.
Definitely don’t want to cause any strain for others, so if it was too much, Mea Culpa
I think I’ll just have everyone submit an expense report to me next year and I will keep all excess gifts
On a serious note though: hopefully nobody feels like they weren’t a “good” Santa because of what other Santas got their person.
To the bill…I see both sides of this debate and feel @jsg_nado brings up a good point:
As a first timer I had to go back and scroll last years to get a sense of spend. Also as a first timer, to me the fun part of SS has been getting creative in the giving and not the receiving.
So today I submit resolution 777 to the floor for consideration that we raise the 2024 rate to $50 and not to exceed $70 without proper justification (items were regifted, you are both bourbon lovers, you’re rich, bitch, etc…etc)
We’re putting a cap on it now? I thought this was a free country?
Kidding. But not really. This is my first year doing it but my thoughts are this. It’s an exchange with a suggested number. No one should be upset if they get something that meets the parameters, only if they get a dud. If seeing someone else getting an h&b polo will make you upset then maybe this isn’t the thing for you.
Some people live for giving gifts. I don’t know everyone’s situation but meet a nice guy who doesn’t have a lot of family or never had kids and this kind of stuff is more fun for them than anything. I know a few people in my personal life that fit that bill.
It certainly wasn’t and I’m not even paying close attention to who is giving what. I prob shouldn’t have given specific examples bc that makes it feel like I was singling people out and that’s not the case. So let me give a mea culpa to you!
These are generally the two points I was getting at but if people want to spend whatever to provide that perfect gift then maybe we don’t event bother with a “suggested” amount.
I felt some undertones of animosity in some posts and felt like I had to say something (I was also drunk watching my UCONN Huskies own the Zags and the second half got boring)
I think today’s the day. USPS took ownership of a pirate ship package… could it be?
Nevermind it’s my AHC DAWWWGS lid. Fooled again
Anxiously awaiting my giftee to open….
RIP Ceelow
