Yeah I think Dark Wire is the call. Excited for a non-fiction book to mix things up.
Do we have an idea of what time we’re going to meet? Realized that the 22nd is a Wednesday and that’s when we have our winter simulator league.
It’s typically 6:00PM PST, but I can be flexible going LATER which might not work for everyone in earlier timezones
As an old man who normally goes to bed at 9EST I would prefer to not go later. Just my 2 cents.
6pm PST wouldn’t be terrible if that holds, could always pop in for a bit on the back half!
I wasn’t going to be the one to bring it up, but glad that someone else did.
Finished this up last week and excited for the discussion. Definitely feel it will serve as a strong example of how some of our (likely) least favorite reads can spark solid discussion. Looking forward to it.
Does anyone have access to a Zoom account that could set up a longer call? I have Teams but that isn’t always the best for everyone.
Zoom had been handled by @mcdonart22 but not sure if you’re joining us tonight? Anyone else?
@OffTheDole may be able to put together a Zoom for us
What time?
6pm Pacific Time
Looks like @OffTheDole got it for tonight (which I’m bummed not to be able to make), but I’m really, really excited that Book Club is starting back up again! I’ll definitely be at the next one!
Trying to power through some computer issues…
Won’t be able to get it tonight but that main character SUCKKKKKKKKKKKKEDDDDD
Interesting themes explored, but the novel couldn’t overcome my disdain for her.
I’ll be at the next one, looking forward to it!
Thanks to those who made it and the Refuge Book Club is BACK, baby!
Our next book was suggested by @BeenMacKenzied and it is DARK WIRE. Non fiction but looks like a riveting read and not too dense.
Possible dates:
February 26
March 5
March 12
@BeenMacKenzied - let us know when YOU can make it and we will start from there. Looking forward to it!
EDITED: I knew I’d heard a bit more about this than just knowing the book was out there. Probably better to listen to this afterwards as it’s the author walking through a lot of the details of the case, but it’s a really good listen:
If this is indeed the next RBC selection I just finished it and can confirm its a) a pretty snappy, easy-to-follow read for non-fiction and b) poses a lot of interesting questions regarding right to privacy, especially in the epilogue
Let’s do Feb26!!! Looking forward to it!
@OffTheDole can you update the title here to:
Refuge Book Club: Dark Wire, February 26, 2025
Thanks sir. I’ll ride a cart for ya.
