Philadelphia

Hey all if anyone’s interested in a beginning of the season competition. I’ve played in this tournament for the past few years. Two rounds of golf with lunch and dinner. Prizes awarded and the competition gets flighted following the first round.

Moccasin Run isn’t the most architecturally thrilling golf course, but it’s a fun one to help shake the rust off.

I’ve already got my partner sorted but recommend others play too.

Visiting family in Philly and walked the grounds at this little loop. Interest is high to quite high…

Hey, I just joined there this December! I don’t know all the ins and outs yet, but happy to answer any questions.

Edit- and absolutely loving it so far.

Are these dues accurate? Seems like a great deal, and I thought I was getting great value at Lulu. Don’t know anything about the course though obviously.

Those are the correct dues. It’s a very short 9 hole course, but it can be fun. It’s hard to compare it to 18 hole facilities that offer more amenities. I still think Lulu represents a pretty damn good value for you.

Like @swade said, it would be silly to compare it to Lulu. They’re on completely different levels.

Flourtown is a 9-hole muni that happens to be “private” (township residents can play as long as they don’t abuse the privilege). It’s short, two of the par 4’s are drivable, and has small but undulating greens as the only protection. Some bunkers can be putted out of due to no lip. There’s also no restaurant, though the bar sells hotdogs at least.

It’s nothing spectacular, but the membership is very chill, it’s easy to get a tee time, and totally worth the dues if you live close enough.

I was there visiting from Cleveland. My brother checked it out and was told membership
Is full. He’s not a sicko but for the price I told him he’d be crazy not to join.

Also drove by the very visible Whitemarsh Valley. Looked pretty cool. That the case?

Whitemarsh is cool. It’s the first George Thomas design as the land was his family’s estate. I think it’s a good but not great golf course. There’s a lot of up and down, and parallel holes but with really good greens. Definitely worth playing, but definitely in tier 3 locally.

Philly is so damn old and cool.

I worked there for a couple of summers in '07 and '08, so I don’t know the current situation. Back then the membership was very old and “stiff”. Women weren’t allowed to tee off before noon on the weekends, that kind of stuff. No idea if that’s still the case. The course is solid though unless there’s a lot of recent rain. Like it’s name suggests, it does sit in the valley and floods quite spectacularly. The opening par 4 can become an island green at times.

It’s early but anyone from the Phactory planning on going to the US AM? I’m planning on going Friday and would love to play somewhere (Jeffersonville?!) on Saturday.

I’m not a Phactory person, but I’ll definitely be there. Seeing this type of event at a great course with sparse crowds is the best.

Hey guys. This is my first post but I’ve been lurking for a while :joy:.

I am involved in the organization of the volunteers for the Am. If a group of Philly Nest members want to volunteer together I can get you set up as a group. I am responsible in the placing of the volunteers into their respective duties so we could make the marshaling of one hole dedicated to Nest/NLU guys. It does require 3 half day shifts and a $175ish fee for the Peter Millar gear. If there is interest let me know and we can work it out. It would be fun to meet you all.

When do you need to know by? Sounds awesome (besides the fee but that’s the world).

Hi Joe. Sounds good. We have a month or so to get the bulk of our work done. The goal is to hit our number by the beginning of June. So far we have a lot of the membership committed but we still need a few hundred more.

We don’t love the fee either but it covers the cost of the gear, two very tasteful Peter Millar polos and an imperial performance hat. It’s over $300 in gear retail.

It’s going to be a great event. The Curtis Cup was awesome and this should be even better.

He’s likely at one of the Phactory events right now, but @MikeRevak is your guy. I’m sure there’d be some interest from the group.

Should be fairly easy to get a group for Jeffersonville that Saturday especially with their new tee time policy.

Curtis cup was such a fun and intimate fan experience, definitely looking forward to the Am. Will likely be there Thursday and probably one of the weekend days as well
