Just seeing this - still available?

There’s nothing crazy when it comes to road crossings - every time you have to cross a road, the tee is pretty much right on the other side. There’s one long-ish walk from the 9th green/clubhouse to the 10th tee (probably 300 yards or so) but you can leave your clubs about 100 yards in front of the tee and then get them on the way to hit your 2nd shot if you need to. I don’t want to speak for your friend but if he’s used to walking 18 holes then he shouldn’t run into any problems there.

I got a day stuck out in Plymouth Meeting for a wedding today. Any recs on top food and arboretum options? Seems like a lot of the latter and not many of the former

Plymouth Meeting is pretty commercial in regards to restaurants. A lot of chains/mall options.

Fantastic sushi at WooJung, though. Would highly recommend that spot.

Southern Cross in Conshohocken is excellent. Morris Aboretum is not far, but Longwood Gardens is the GOAT.

Ah, if you’re going to pop over to Conshy, yes to Southern Cross or El Limon (taqueria)

Longwood is the bees knees. Be sure to check out the bonsai exhibit too.

I live about five minutes from Longwood Gardens if anyone is ever in the area!

Did Longwood every summer in my Wilmington days. Need to hit at Christmas, hear it’s really something.

Can confirm it’s something around Christmas. So is the crazy amount of people there. You have to get tickets ahead of time before going.

It’s amazing around Christmas. That’s actually when we got engaged. But, yeah we got tickets ahead of time - it can be a zoo.

A buddy of mine was saying Jeffersonville doesn’t allow singles even like weekday mornings. Is anyone able to confirm if that is true or not?

They don’t allow you to book singles online at all that I’m aware of, and in the few times I’ve called the pro shop to ask if I can get on, the tone is “I’d rather you kick my dog than go on as a single.”

I was once told that I could come to the course and physically sign a sheet then they would offer me a spot when one came available, if one came available, but that I would have to be onsite. Needless to say, I haven’t tried to go on as a single in a year or two.

Paxon has been very similar in the two years I’ve lived in media. Haven’t tried this year, but that place has always rubbed me the wrong way because of their staff.

Yeah that is the vibe he was describing to me too which I was surprised by. He just picked up the game last year and works a weird shift so he has weekday mornings wide open. His preference is to try to walk 18 before work but has been struggling to find places that will allow it.

Shannondell not only allows singles but will let you book online. It is by no means my favorite course by any metric, but conditions are decent plus the price is right. Great value for money in the same area as JVille. Now if they would only cut down some trees and put sand in the bunkers…

Other options allowing singles I’ve played in MontCo are Spring Hollow (like this one far better than Shannondell) and Macoby Run (it was fine but not worth the drive).

A good bet is also just searching GolfNow and filtering by time, 18 holes, and 1 golfer. You’d be surprised what turns up, especially at weird times.

Haven’t tried Shannondell or JVille, but my go to course as a single is Westover. That course is great for a twilight round after work.

I grew up playing Phila Cricket. I echo everything said here. Three great courses. They perked up the 9 in chestnut hill a couple years ago and it’s a real treat to play now. Used to be 18, hosted two US Opens (1907 and 1910, I believe?), but the club sold the land that held the other 9 a long time ago. I play it as much as possible whenever I come home.

Hello friends. I think I will have a brief half day on Monday in Philly before I fly home (7AM-2PM), first time visiting the city. I guess what is the best places /parks to visit in terms of walking through?

My plan was to get a cheesesteak at Pat’s for breakfast, walk through the city to maybe Five Iron on the West Side, hit some golf balls, then walk back through the city to Reading Terminal to stock up on airplane snacks before flying out.

Also not trying to start a cheesesteak debate, I figure I have to cross it off the list since I’m visiting for the first time.
