Yeah I feel ya man. It sucks. I used to play rounds occasionally for fun but it became such a grind.
Playing without tempo last night got me excited again. It all becomes about swing path and swing plane, and with master being slightly off on either you still hit decent shots but it turns birdies into pars. Unlike a red fast or slow which completely fucks your hole.
So I just played a round at mid pines (high wind, firm fairways and greens, fast greens, swing timing off, distance control meter for putting only) and found it quite enjoyable. I was able to just focus on feel and making sure I was putting the ball in the right places, manipulating ball flights (fade/draw), etcā¦
Iām fairly consistent with swing plane so drives and irons went pretty much as expected. I was able to actually get out of bunkers! Pitch shots worked!
All in all shot +2 which is actually good for me (and I didnāt really try with putting this round, so had several 3 putts).
Yeah, anything that reduces the importance of one factor will increase the other. I refrain from making a value judgement over whether itās better to emphasize strategy over skill. But the strategy component basically always stays the same in the adjustments weāre discussing (it only changes relative to skill). You really canāt change that without bringing in all of the cheats that we turn off, and I havenāt heard any discussion of adding those in. I canāt even remember what theyāre called.
I donāt necessarily disagree, but I think straight hop to legendary might punish the lower 2 flights quite a bit. I think we do master to start and maybe try legendary after that (and for Ryder cup)
Kind of have to agree with the ol swinging kid on this one. It sucks but it sucks for us all. If @JBors were instituting these alterations then we could talk. āPlay the game as itās codedā I believe Old Tom once said.
The real problem is that real golf and life are better than video game golf. Maybe we just need an October to April āseasonā and mess around with courses and alternate modes in the summer?
I think the bigger problem is that itās not the same game across all the consoles. PlayStation has a clear advantage just based off the scores posted.
Again, we canāt control that. So if we change the rules everyone else will still be left behind.
In my opinion itās just a slippery slope. Iād rather be in the trenches with everyone than on gameplay mode 18.5 subsection G trying to make it perfect
We can though. The big difference between consoles is the swing timing. Before the updates, it was still possibly to be competitive on Xbox because timing wasnāt as big a penalty. We have an option to turn it off and level everything.
Before the updates the game was almost in a perfect spot. I am still hesitant to change but itās also an absolute mess.
But if we want the society to carry on as is. Something needs to be done. Thereās a lot of Xbox players that are only grinding for the league. And probably will stop sooner than later.
And if all else fails. Iāll be down to kick anyones ass in Mario golf.
