There was a group from the CC in my hometown that booked it for a day last summer/fall, my dad was gonna go and I wasn’t able to swing it with work and then they got rained out.

Like you said, I think the coolest thing would’ve been having the course to yourselves to play as much as you want. Have definitely heard the conditioning is the best thing about it with how little play it sees.

I’m sure I’ll check it off at some point just to say I did, might as well knock off the 1 top 100 course that is accessible and basically in my backyard.

Such an awesome idea @DrJ - thanks for getting it rolling! I may only be able to join part of it as fall Saturdays end up pretty hectic with my daughter’s cross-country schedule, but I’ll join for whatever part I can.

Also, if there’s any appetite to extend the festivities to a Friday, I’d be happy to arrange something here in B-N either at Weibring (ISU) or The Den at Fox Creek if folks are interested. Or if nothing else, BloNo Pizza is a poor man’s TopGolf and would be a great evening destination if we snagged one of their private spaces like the NBA Jam Room:

After Weibring completely ANNIHILATING me at state in HS golf, I’d love to get another shot at it

Maybe we run up to the home of the real fifth major TPC Deere Run

Say less.

Deere Run is incredible, truly. Just need a pontoon boat to recreate the ZJ airhorn debacle lol

Did anyone happen to play/know anything about the Rock Island armory(?) golf course? I played an AJGA tournament there as a kid, but think the military closed it?

The QC contingent would welcome an event at our prestigious and beloved Weibring.

Regarding RIA GC, I’ll let @grandpa_jones fill in the details but it’s coming back to life as a 9 hole…

Allegedly.

It was a pretty cool setting from what I remember of it

Just talked to the turf company who’s putting in the greens at the Arsenal this week. Gonna be 9 holes and might open this year but most likely next year.

When I inquired about an event at Deere Run about 2 years ago it was about $120/person. Pretty sure it didn’t include lunch either. TPC is a blast and is a perfect course for an event. Of course don’t want to step on @DrJ ’s idea of an event in Peoria. I love Lick Creek and even Madison.

Was our home course for a year and a half when I was at Augie. Miss that place. Awesome to hear it is coming back

Some truly terrible holes out there and it was a pain in the ass to get to but was a super fun/funky place for match play and other money games

I’m happy to have an event anywhere in our little region. I just thought for a confluence vs second city roost Ryder cup event that Peoria was basically the middle point between the two.

Unfortunately my fundraising plan of never giving back the one and done money was foiled. Our coffers currently sit at whatever is in my checking account.

I’m getting word from my accountant

Making a trip down to Peoria/Normal with some family/friends over the summer. Hitting Kellogg, Lick, Weaver (for the first time), and then Weibring on the last day. Feels great to have a return to my college and early professional stomping grounds.

Read that Lick underwent a massive bunker project last year, can anyone speak to what the course is like now? I also read Weaver was in tough shape up until its 2021 reno work.

I haven’t been out to Lick this year. Bunker work had started (I believe) last time we played it last fall.

I’ve played Weaver right before/as work was happening, and then a few times since. It was definitely in real tough shape pre, but I thought it has been fantastic the last few times I played. I think it was into October when I played last fall and other than typical late-season dreariness, conditioning was excellent.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either.

Is Metamora Fields walkable?

It’s a big ballpark but they do hold regionals/sectionals for high schoolers. It’s not the worst walk

Would agree with @dflock24 , infinitely more walkable than Weaver, similar walk to Lick Creek would be my comparison.

I walked it last year when they held a mini-tour pro am, wasn’t carrying clubs but it was overall fine.

So whether it’s @EConroy419 prepping for his trip this summer or anyone else in the area, our family’s annual GFPD fundraiser is going on this week and our auction is live now! It runs through Sunday night (5/19) at 9pm CST. Includes rounds at many local courses, including:

  • Weibring
  • Metamora Fields/WeaverRidge
  • Bloomington Country Club
  • El Paso
  • Ironwood
  • Bloomington Golf Courses (essentially The Den at Fox Creek)
  • TPC Deere Run
  • Lawsonia
  • Arrowhead (Peoria)

Along with some other fun stuff like NLU gift cards, TGJ membership, Erin Hills merch, and more bourbon than you might know what do to with. Take a look:

Oh and Ethan - whether you buy any rounds in the auction or not, let me know whenever you make your trip. If I’m around I’d love to join in for at least one round!
