Greeting Nesticles, Refugees, Knowers, Lurkers and Schwaldos,
We’re making some changes to the Refuge message board that we think will make it a better place to hang out and find the conversations you actually want to be in. @ChickPhilA has been leading the charge on this front, so shoutout to her!
New categories and a cleaner layout. The board has grown a lot, and some of the bigger categories have gotten unwieldy. We’re splitting things up so there’s a dedicated space for pro golf talk, a spot for hobby chat, a place to discuss your own game, a proper marketplace for buying/selling/trading — and more. Easier to browse, easier to find your interests!
Better homes for NLU content. In front of the paywall, we’re consolidating the content threads. Instead of each new episode spawning its own thread, we’ll have one running home for Sunday Recap Pods, one for Seamsters, one for Trap Draw Chop Sessions, and so on. The conversations will stack up in one place rather than getting buried or fragmented.
Tags. We’re turning on tagging for posts, which gives us another layer for organizing threads across categories on similar topics. Posts will be tagged by content franchise (Strapped, Tourist Sauce, Hittin’ Cups), by geography (Scotland, Idaho, wherever), by tour (PGA, LPGA, DP World) and so on. You’ll be able to filter by those tags to surface everything relevant no matter where it lives on the board.
New topic approvals. To help keep things organized going forward, new topics will need to go through an approval process before they go live. This isn’t about preventing new threads; it’s about making sure we don’t end up with ANOTHER Bandon thread when there’s already a perfectly good one. It also lets us “3Wiggle” (IYKYK) new topics before they go live and make sure tags are applied correctly from the jump. Less cleanup, less shouting “MODS” about dupe threads.
Heads up: new topics are paused while we make the move. While we do the actual reorg work, we’re temporarily suspending new topic creation. Once everything is in its new home, that’ll open back up — with the approval process in place as described above.
Trust Levels are back to normal. With the last update to Discourse, we were able to go back to using the board software’s native Trust Level system. The more you participate, the more you unlock. Things like being able to add tags yourself, posting topics without needing approval, and yes, maybe even more likes. More on that as we get there.
We’re doing this to make the Refuge easier to use and easier to find the stuff you actually want to engage with — appreciate you bearing with us through the transition over the next couple weeks.
Thanks for your support,
Neil, Casey and the rest of the squad
