Sure do. Thanks!

Match 3 is where you belong.

Match 14 is supposed to be the following:
@cstevens3407 vs @methridge

Count me ultra blessed to be confused with @methridge. What a way to end the week!

As always, thank you for the time and effort you put into this. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say how cool of you it is to take the time.

Are there deadlines for each round? Or maybe better asked, is there a date by which our champion needs crowned?

The plan is to do every two weeks. If I’d gotten this out early enough the deadline would have been the 8th of June for the first round but I’m giving some grace the first round.

If you go every two weeks from the end of the first deadline then it should be:

  • Round of 32 - June 16th
  • Round of 16 - June 30th
  • Round of 8 - July 14th
  • Semi-Finals - July 21st
  • Finals - August 4th

That being said, I know that once we hit summer it’ll get tougher to schedule. We don’t have a drop dead date at the moment for getting to the final but obviously pushing into September we start to bump up against fall sports and spotty weather.

@Cramptcm and I had our match at Losantiville on Saturday, with @Collya and @methridge joining in on the fun.

It started out as a pillow fight, but I got out of the gates even slower than Chris and I was quickly 3 down. I clawed back to 1 down over the next few holes, then Chris took advantage of a pop on 9 to make the turn with him 2 up.

After a few more up and down holes, Chris was 4 up with 5 to play. I won 14 and 15, then we halved 16 to go dormie. Then I won 17 and 18 to end regulation all square. We rolled over to the first tee to start the bonus ball and, despite very different paths to the hole, halved it with pars. On our 20th hole (the 2nd hole), we both hit very similar tee shots and had birdie putts around 20 feet. I happened to make mine and Chris burned the edge, which gave me the win.

Chris couldn’t have been a better host. While we quickly met at Los previously, I’m glad we finally got to play a round together and forward to doing it again soon!

Leaving for vacation Saturday and returning the following Saturday. @cussingmussel and I are going to try and get our match in on the 16th but given that I’ll be returning the day before I may have duties at home. We/I may need a little leniency on time if possible.

@ZekeH5 and I battled at Springfield. A solid front 9 for me built a strong 5up lead. I leaned on my putter many a times. Turns out I would need it. While I had dormie with 5 to play, my mental game melted as I tripled 14, doubled 15, and bogeyed 16. Zeke had an 8’ to get it to 17 where he would pop and a chance to put the pressure on 18 with the clubhouse peanut gallery watching. But on 16, the putt carried a tad too much speed and power lipped off the back left edge. I would have much rather won the match but will take it. Pleasure playing with @PersistentlyOverPar and @Racole212 and best of luck to Zeke starting a roost over at the worlds 5th major in Iowa. I will come play a rematch at whatever course he calls out.

It was fun catching some shots of this match from the group ahead. I’ve yet to play with Jack but turned around and saw enough strikes to know yeah that dude is a flusher. Watching Zeke’s putt on 15 from up on 16 tee, our group couldn’t believe that thing missed. I now feel less bad for him as I didn’t know you doubled so I’m assuming that putt didn’t matter.

This is my first year competing in the Ohio match play tournament, and this morning, for my first match of the knock-out rounds, I had the pleasure of challenging @Collya to a duel across the grounds of his home course, Losantiville Country Club in Cincinnati. It was truly an epic battle, with an ever-changing tide of momentum, and a climactic finish that tied a bow on one of my absolute favorite rounds of golf in recent memory. If you’ll spare me the next few minutes of your time, I’d love to recount it for you.

Things got off to a brisk start, as I was able to capture three of the first four holes and race out to an early 3-up lead over Will. This would prove to be essential later in the match, as I was to give Will a total of 10 shots on the day. His slow start didn’t last long, though, as he took the sixth and seventh holes in succession, clawing back to 1-down as we reached the 8th tee.

Holes 8 through 11 seem to be regarded as the true gauntlet of the round at Losantiville, constituting four consecutive par-fours that fall from the tee and rise to the green, draped back-and-forth across the two primary ridges that define the course’s topography. Three of the four holes stretch to at least 400 yards, with steeply sloped putting surfaces, well-placed bunkering, and healthy amounts of foliage should you veer off the intended line of play. The eighth and ninth were both stroke holes for Will, and after missing both fairways, I had to plod out careful pars in order to match his two comfortable fives. Thus, we made the turn with Will down 1.

The tenth was halved with pars, and at the 11th, another stroke hole, Will left his second shot just short of the green, hitting a very nice chip to tap-in range. I had missed the fairway left, and hit a low, hooking 5-iron that chased over the back of the green, leaving a fast, downhill chip for birdie that I needed to hole for a half. To my delight and surprise, the ball took the slope perfectly, curling left, crashing into the flagstick and dropping for a three! I remained 1-up.

A sand-save par at the 12th put me back to 2-up, but I had a barrage to endure over the closing stretch. Will would receive strokes at the 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th; four of the last six holes. And so began a nail-biting back-and-forth for the ages.

Will’s 5-for-4 at the 13th brought him back to 1-down; at the short par-4 14th, I stuck a wedge in close for my second birdie of the day, and went back 2-up. Bunkered off the tee at the 15th, I was only able to scratch out a bogey 5, but Will made a quality par save to go 1-down, once again. And at the long par-5 16th, another well-executed 5-for-4 from Will squared the match with two holes to play.

On the short par-three 17th, Will’s tee shot found the left greenside bunker, in a fried egg lie that would make Andy Johnson tremble. I was safely aboard, pin high below the hole. Will’s bunker escape found the far side of the green, and after another chip and a putt, the hole was mine. Back to 1-up, with one hole to play.

The 18th was the last of Will’s stroke holes; a shortish par-4 turning slightly left and up the hill to the clubhouse. His tee shot veered right, down the hill over a bunker and somewhat obstructed by trees. Mine went the opposite direction, down the left and almost entirely blocked out by timber. Will then proceeded to hit one of the best shots of the day, a high cut over the trees to the tucked front-right pin, coming to rest within about 15 feet of the hole. I knew then that making birdie was my only chance to close out the match; my only direct route to the green, however, was to punch an 8-iron under the branches, bounding up the hill and barely making it onto the putting surface. The ensuing putt came up just short, and after Will nestled his birdie attempt in close, the hole was his and the match returned to all-square. Time for a playoff!

We quickly turned around and teed off on the downhill, dogleg-left par-5 first; Will hit a fine tee shot into the fairway at the corner, while I tugged a 2-iron left onto the wooded hillside. To my surprise, the ball bounded forward and came to rest with an open view of the green, about 200 yards from the hole. After somewhat of a mis-hit second shot, Will was left with around 110 yards for his third; his wedge painted the flagstick the entire way, and came to rest about 10 feet below the hole. My adrenaline-fueled 7-iron approach bounded over the back of the green, and I hit a quality chip to about three feet.

After long, concentrated looks at our remaining putts, Will’s finished just barely low and right, and mine found the bottom of the cup for a victory in 19 holes.

Forgive my redundancy, but in all sincerity it was one of the most enjoyable and exciting matches I have ever played, and a true privilege to be Will’s guest at such a wonderful club as Losantiville. A shout-out is due to our caddie, Aidan, who double-bagged all 19 holes, guiding me around a golf course I had only seen once before, and will hopefully soon be our newest Ohio Refugee.

@pjsutherland - you’ve got next.

Great match today! Vincent golfed his ball - forcing me to really step, especially after I was slow out of the gate. In the end it was no slap fight which was fun.

Wish I could’ve advanced further and forced our end of the bracket to really be a “OATW goes through Losantiville” but that responsibility now rests with @methridge

That is the most pristine fucking scorecard I have ever seen, just absolute sicko shit, kudos.

They even used “AS” instead of “tied” because clearly they are not animals.

Few things in golf are more satisfying to me than a well-maintained scorecard.

All square, halved, hazard.
None of this “tied” or “penalty area” baloney.

I met up with @JBair31 this beautiful Saturday morning for our match at Yankee Trace, playing the Legend course to Vintage. We both were rusty to get started, Jared less so and built a 2 hole lead through 3 holes. In what was going to replay several times through today, I took 2 holes back to even it up through 6. Jared, not to be kept quiet, made an easy par on the long 7th. On the hardest hold on the course, number 9, he then bombed a drive at least 320, flushed an iron onto the green, and nestled an eagle putt to 2 inches for a comfortable birdie, finishing 2 up through 9… leaving me with my jaw dropped on the putting surface.

After a stern talking to myself, I focused up and took back the 2 holes over the next 3 holes on Vintage, AS through 12. Jared does not take going down lightly, and went par-birdie to take the 2 immediately back. Jared up 2 through 14.

This is when the tide certainly shifted, as Jared hooked a ball OB on 15. On the par 5 16th, he again found a hazard. Going into 17 AS, with two fairly easy holes to go. Luckily for me, these two holes have always been good to me. While Jared battled to stay in the match, I went birdie-birdie on 17 and 18 to finish with the 1up win.

I give Jared a lot of credit. Going into 17 his SO called him in a panic since his dog killed a squirrel in their backyard (this squirrel may be connected to the @smithburger incident…). I can’t imagine playing after that kind of a phone call :joy:

It was such a fun match, and really shows how much fun match play can be instead of counting strokes. We had a great random with us, Todd, who hit 13/14 fairways, just an incredible display with the driver. Overall a great match, cannot wait for the next!

No way you wrote that card during the match…

It was truly a great back forth match, with fun had by all!

Don’t worry the squirrel has been properly laid to rest despite the panicked phone call on 16.

Todd was truly a legend hitting 13 fairways with cig in mouth for no less than 10 of those tee shots.

Ryan,

Just giving you a heads up from here in Columbus that my round of 32 (with @PlumbBobMillionaire) 16 match (winner of @JDR9 and @wreckhockey) will be delayed, due to some family stuff on my end. We all played at WTTR on Saturday and have a game plan but we will pick it up in later June and July to get on track.
