OATW Match Play - 2025 - Round 3 Winners - Second Chance bracket needs to speed up

Great day at Oberlin with @waver82. I was spotting Nick 4 shots. We both hit it ok on the front 9 and took turns with spotty chipping and bunker play. I scored a couple early wins then Nick got it back to all square thanks to a solid par on the par 3 fifth and a comfy bogey on #7, the third toughest hole. #8, a par 3, was a bit of a missed opportunity for Nick—he hit a great tee shot just to the back fringe. I short sided myself then proceeded to flub a chip. I decided to stop being cute and chipped to about 20 feet. Nick left his first putt outside gimme range. I then rolled in my bogey putt. Nick burned the edge to halve a hole he should’ve had. We both hit two solid shots on the par 5 ninth. Nick hit the better wedge shot, to about 15 feet. I hit mine to about 25 feet, but I think it was the easier putt—straight uphill with just a little left to right. I run my putt in and Nick’s birdie putt to halve snaps off at the hole. Joe 1-up at the turn. After halving 10 we tackled the difficult par 4 11th. It was playing dead into the wind so I was left with lumber after a mediocre drive. I hit maybe my best shot all day, finding the green. Nick gave himself a par putt of about 20 feet, but couldn’t get it to go. My 2-putt par leaves me 2-up. #12 was a pillow fight—Nick doubles with a pop to match my bogey. I make a comfy two part par 3 on #13 and Nick runs into a little bunker trouble. Joe goes 3-up. We both make quick, comfy work of the par 5 14th, halving it with pars. #15 is a short par 5 but is by no means easy. We both hack it up a little bit and are left with bogey putts. I make mine from about 15-feet. Nick just misses, giving me a 4&3 win.

Nick hit it well for a lot the day. I was able to avoid major disasters, and quickly found myself really comfortable on the greens. I made a lot of putts in the 15-25 feet range, definitely the major difference today.

Many thanks to Nick for hosting at this awesome, never not fun course. I can’t recommend it enough.

Well, I’m an absolutely lazy bones this week apparently and totally did not hop on getting the match play bracket set up like I was planning to.

We have 31 players on the spreadsheet with matches recorded. Which means unless someone(s) didn’t get their matches on the spreadsheet, then we are looking at a single bye situation for the bracket. Based on PPM, it looks like that bye might actually go to me?

I do need a couple zip codes @mharp and @CorneliousPoon in order to help make this bracket somewhat regional to start so people don’t have to drive too far for their earlier matches.

Finally, once we get matches set I’m going to tag players in and I’m going to remind everyone that making the knockout stage requires another $20 to venmo to help pay for prizes and our Finale match at Columbus Country Club.

Thanks everyone!

I keep forgetting to input mine. I think I went 0-4 against @jobu415 @waver82 @jack67 and @wreckhockey

Throw yours on there along with your zip code and you’ll be the 32nd player so their aren’t any byes.

Post the bracket!

Waiting on a zip code still.

Maybe you need it to be more specific, but he’s definitely in the Cleveland area

Okay. If that’s the case, I’ll start working on putting it together.

Holy shit, did I miss count earlier? I’m only counting 31 now. WTF.

Even after @Conley76 put his scores on.

Okay so this is going to be interesting.

8 in Cincinnati
8 in Columbus/Springfield
8 in Cleveland
7 in Dayton, Indiana, Findlay, Michigan

There has to be one other person who got a match in, or wants to do something extra to get in, just into keep the numbers even

I’ve got two matches I need to put in I went 0-2 for mine two weeks ago I’ll put them in now.

No worries. I think that’ll put us at an even 32 then at least.

God this is always the worst part. Likely not taking a lunch today lmao

It’s coming though people!

:rotating_light: Bracket is ready! :rotating_light:

We’ve got four distinct regions with Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton et al. The only slight hiccup was that Cleveland has 9 players (not 8 like I thought originally) so one player is from that region is having to run through Columbus.

I can only tag so many players at once so we’re going to do this four matches at a time. Someone will need to comment below the first four matches so I can keep going.
