NLU ST ANDREWS INV. (Keep. DMK’s. Name. Out. Your Fu*kin Mouth!)

Yeah, all we can do at this point is hope things move in a good direction. Also saw this article, which is certainly some good news that the AZ vaccine seems to be slowing transmission as well.

Got the same email. Really have no open dates personally to reschedule. Hoping in a month things are magically better.

As stated before I am supposed to be there May 13 - 31, but am on the verge of rescheduling for 2022. I truly don’t want to continue pushing this trip again and again but as stated by @IRBS stated " but it is what it is I guess". It was Originally scheduled for 2020. At this rate it may become a birthday trip for my 50th. Lol

We have given the first jab to 10 million. Vaccinations on around 500k.

Similar position, need to decide if I’m going to cancel or reschedule my trip at the end of April that was postponed from last year. If you’re scheduled to play the old course, do you have any idea when they will start to require hitting off mats prior to the 2022 Open?

I dont know this with 100% certainty. But I think I asked the mat question last Jan (originally for May 2021) and was told a month in advance usually. I think Im gonna hold out until April before rescheduling our May trip. Hoping everythings open and were the only ones there :joy:

Same boat for us, trying to hold out as long as possible - really don’t want to punt another year and have to juggle TOC.

I hear you, my fear with rescheduling is going when everyone finally has the chance and the place is a zoo. I emailed St. Andrews regarding the Open and they directed me to the following link:

I had the okay from my wife to still go over with the 5-day quarantine but no way I could swing the 10-day requirement. The thought of reading golf books for 5 days straight before playing over there was quite appealing. But 10-days will have me looking into the Refuge divorce shack.

The old course is off mats from November to a February usually. I’d hazard a guess they’d keep mats for the rest of the year until The Open is hosted

That is what I figured as well. I can’t imagine they will go off grass for a couple months just to go back on mats.

I think it’s mats until the end of March normally and the course is usually completely closed for a period before the Open.

Is anybody still hanging on or have all trips been abandoned? I thought May might happen a month ago but now feel like there is no way.

Has this golf course ever hosted an Open Championship in July before? Perhaps there’s precedent more persuasive than a hazarded guess.

Edit: The course is closed for a month leading up to the championship. Sounds like they’ll be guarding landing areas a bit before that by requiring mats from those locations. Fortunately, I tend not to hit my approaches from where PGA and Euro Tour players do, so I probably won’t notice.

I’m very confident my trip to Scotland in late July will happen. The UK has already released their “stoplight” style guidelines for reopening for international leisure travel and are expected to approve it starting May 17th. Nicola Sturgeon, being the stubborn Scot that she is and wanting to show how independent Scotland is from the UK, will of course delay implementation of the exact same plan by about 2 weeks and declare that Scotland did it better.

I’m guessing by early June we will see reports pouring back of American tourists enjoying the links over there again!

Glad I cancelled and rebooked my trip in 7 days then. Hoping to get it rebooked for next year or the following. Everyone gave us a full refund except Carnoustie.

When I went through this last year Carnoustie was the only vendor who wouldn’t offer a full refund. Most offered a nice bonus for rebooking instead of taking a refund. For example, Castle Stuart gave us a free round so we will be playing it twice.

If I knew a reschedule date I would have for sure. Somehow I got more back from places than what we paid. Different exchange rate now?

For the record, I’m writing this from a hotel in Dornoch (I have a tee time in an hour ). The hotels here opened on Monday. This place has been shut since October 2019 and I am the first guest in it since then. So, shoots are appearing and expectations are high for the summer.

All you need is the border open and you’re golden.

Open border and no quarantine requirement, which sounds like exactly what is coming May 17th, and possibly sooner.
