Doing two massive time changes like that.
Jet lag
Just do one long trip.
Round the world tickets cheap right now.
Pulled the trigger on the flight today! Two weeks in Scotland! (although part of my heart wants to just start a Masters Degree at University of Edinburg and really extend the trip…)
I have a friend who suggested to me that I should encourage my daughter to go to St Andrews for college. It might just be the most brilliant suggestion I’ve heard, though my early push to her got a blank stare. She’s 13, I have time to work this plan into action.
I was in Edinburgh for a friend’s weddding years ago now and fell so hard in love with the city…She 100% should do something like that.
I have a friend who went to St Andrews University. Best 4 years ofhis life.
Do you happen to have an itinerary of which courses are played on which days? I’m part of the RACDG group looking to head over to say hi, would be cool to be on some of the courses around the same time as you guys!
We just booked a few 4balls today for the 3day Links Ticket Tue - Thurs. So a bunch of us will be in town too the same week to hang out with you all. Finally get to meet you after several failed attempts…
Where are you going after? I may head up to Dornoch as I’m joining in the next few weeks if you fancy that. Welcome to join me / us.
Oh, and St Andrews is an amazing uni and Edinburgh is one of the best small cities in the world. So couldn’t recommend that enough.
planning on just staying in Edinburgh
You’re joining Dornoch?
#LifeGoals
Yeah. Decided to push the button the other day.
You wont regret that. Life is short.
It’s a process to get into Dornoch. You start out with rights to play the Struie course first, then graduate you when a place becomes available. Can still play the championship a few times a year. So it’ll take a while. But I’m all in. It’s unbelievable.
I joined the following Scottish clubs as an overseas member:
Brora
Fortrose
St Andrews Golf Club
Crail
When we were there, our AirBnB host said her husband had belonged but quit because it was too much money for how little he played. It was 600EUR a year but apparently he only played it a few times. We tried to explain how that was still an incredible deal but to no success.
Yeah it’s crazy cheap. But the British don’t think about it in terms of prestige. We think about value. It’s £225 to play a round. Probably £30 as a member guest. So, you need to be playing more than that to get value from it. If all your friends are there and you can play it 6 times a year with them for £180 we just don’t see the point in membership. You’re paying £300+ for nothing.
I’ll go up for a week maybe once or twice a year to get my use from it, but the prestige is a big thing to me because I’m a golf nerd. So that adds value.
So to be clear…has this trip been filled and booked?
Yes, trip has a full roster, dm me if you want to get on the alternate list.
i feel you @cwalsh27.
