NLU Podcast, Episode 814: Masters Deep Dives - '77, '80, '89, '11 (feat. clips)

I haven’t even finished this thing yet but just listening to the 2011 piece had me itching to talk about this pod:

And I love @KVV bringing up the drip in the 77 Masters. Those clothes were awesome.

I still can’t believe he missed the eagle putt on 15 :frowning:

Fact check from the audience, @Soly. At about the 32:20 mark, you say Tiger took the lead in a major for the first time since the 2008 US Open. He held the lead through the first 54 holes of the 2009 PGA before losing to YE Yang.

Anyone else wanting to watch the podcast on the new channel for the visuals, but then not wanting to miss out on listening to it on an app that tracks your listening stats? Spotify Wrapped always has me deep in its grips. Might just have the video one playing alongside on mute so I can see what they’re talking about.

There’s so many Tiger facts out there, this was bound to happen at some point.

Really enjoyed this podcast, as I have with all of the deep dives. And thank you to @VanityIndex for putting all those clips in one place. Those Tiger shots are erotic. Sheesh.

I know I watched the end of the 2011 Masters, but I don’t know when I picked it up. This was right as I was getting into golf, so it was interesting to see what I remembered. I remembered poor damn Rory, the finish, but nothing about Tiger.

@KVV and @Soly what finding surprised you the most as you did the research for these events?

Definitely that Bo Van Pelt kinda almost won the Masters?

Made me giggle about Ogilvy when he was his birdie streak. I remember watching the leaderboard and seeing him flying up and being like “I haven’t see a single shot from him this is odd”

After Tiger slings that hook into 6 and uses the slope to get below the pin, Faldo says, in what seems like an attempt at serious analysis, “I think that was intentional”. I really miss that kind of hard hitting commentary from Sir Nick
