This deep dive is getting my so hyped for the Ryder Cup. Has to be my favorite event in golf.
I’m listening right now. Bravo @Soly, this is fantastic stuff.
when I saw that the pod was 2 hours, I knew my work morning was chalked
Halfway through - Incredible stuff.
Somehow never knew about the car pileup.
Seve was the OG menace.
(Whispers)…the Azinger ball thing was pretty shady!
I guess I was under the impression that Seve was this universally beloved golf figure a la Payne Stewart - this pod makes it appear… less so
Media loves Seve, US players may have hated him every 2 years. The limo crash was really interesting as NBC just said pate was hurt and will try and play.
Unbelievable job of getting all the information and editing it into a giant story well done @Soly !
Totally wild that the venue wasn’t even built when it was selected.
Still blows me away all the relatively obscure guys that have played in a Ryder Cup.
I thought the Ocean course was older than 1991. That bit is fascinating.
Just started and already loving it. The 2 part deep dive @Soly did on I believe 1999 Ryder Cup and forward while getting the reactions from the other guys still might be my favorite pods ever done.
Just finishing the Pod up, truly incredible job Soly, can’t wait for the ryder cup.
Super interesting to look at both the World rankings of the teams (Europe very top heavy with 4/5 top in the world. US seemed to have the advantage the rest of the way with most guys under 40, lots of euros over 35).
And also the ages, US team was significantly older than Europe. Olazabal playing his 3rd Ryder cup at 25! That’s sick.
The production value on this pod is so good. It reminds me of something I’d hear on This American Life or something. So good.
God this has me jacked up. This argument gets made in basketball all the time but I do wish some of the guys weren’t as buddy buddy and things could get legit tense now.
The myth around Seve is amazing. It feels like there isn’t another person on the planet that had control over their ball like he did (with how they talk about him now) AND he seems like just the biggest fucking maniac and I love it.
Chip Beck was my biggest surprise on the Pod. For a relatively unknown member of that team, he provided some really good sound bites and seemed like a very entertaining interview.
One of my biggest takeaways from this pod is that Bernard Gallacher sounds like a sore loser
man this was solid. you guys MUST be getting nibbles from amazon prime or netflix to do original content. this script is begging to be a @djpie documentary.
was about to say: now do medinah. but there’s so many good ones worthy of this treatment and that’s without even getting to brookline. 95 oak hill and 89 belfry come to mind.
So this is probably my bias but the Europeans come across and huge babies… whether it is issues with the crowd, claiming to get screwed over by rules official, etc.
Easily one of the best pods you guys have ever put out. Great work @Soly and whoever else helped edit.
Highly recommend this BBC 2 hour recap:
