NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

PZP’er here as well. How many rides/week are you doing?

Three per week on the current challenge. I typically participate in challenges November to April and Ride 3x + the accelerator ride (a typical month is 250 - 300 miles) because I see this time of year as the time to build. This time I am ditching the AR because of the strength program because that gives me 3 days on the bike + 3/4 days lifting. I’m in week 4 and am feeling it! Looking forward to scaling weights back to two days a week and getting more rest days in.

Once its light after dinner I can get more golf in, so I tend to ride 3x a week then. One PZE and two other rides - - - that way I can chase PR’s and keep my legs fresh for golf.

What about you?

Awesome and pretty similar to my approach. I will usually do 2-3 challenges per year. 4 rides per week. I land in that same 250-300 mi/month. I just really like that PZ doesn’t just feel like ‘riding’ (not that there’s anything wrong with that) … but it feels like ‘training’.

I think there’s a comment here that mentions that MW’s music choices are bad. Truth be told, I couldn’t tell you. In PZ rides I rarely pay attention to the music or look anywhere but my zones. I am obsessed with having perfect graphs and can’t bother to be distracted with that other stuff.

It is always funny to me how my PZ rides never even get close to my PRs (and during the training I inevitably think ‘this isn’t going to help my PR’… then I will do a non-PZ ride at the end of the challenge and kill it.

this stuff really works!

I may not be the only one who commented on it in the thread, but I think MW’s music is awful. I’m not looking for a groove ride where everything has to be BPM::Cadence, but there’s no connectivity whatsoever in his choices usually.

That being said - PZP is the best training on the bike. I was way more into it last summer - think I might need to start a new program next week.

PZP’r here as well and agree MW music choices are mostly awful. However, I will give credit to one of his recent rides in this current challenge. I’m doing 3/week as well, what teams are you guis on.

Watchu Talkin ‘Bout Wilpers?

I don’t really match cadence to music, but do like some good rock when I ride–Matt’s sting back last fall when he was all into EDM/Trance was a back breaker for me. Denis’s music is better–and now that they’ve added CDE (YES) and Olivia to the PZE lineup I expect music will improve.

Weekly ride done. My legs are shaky.

For the power zone people: do you feel any translation of that into your golf game? I know it’s better to be in good shape, but I’d like to gain another ten yards off the tee like everyone else. Does the power zone stuff do that for you?

Just swing harder you don’t need PZ rides

For me - it was more about maintaining strength through the round rather than adding strength. I started riding after having been a hockey player / rower, so had already trained for “explosive power”.

Listen, fer sure, you’re going to find some new speed. I just think you’re going to find more if you do some actual leg day lifting as well.

Swinging harder just puts me in the trees more

Right, but, what if you swing harder than that? Then what happens?

I probably tear something.

I’m just trying to get back to where I was a couple of years ago at like 107-108 mph with the driver. It’s down at 103-104 right now. But some of that is swing related, too much slide and not enough turn. But I’d love to get back into the gym as well.

Anyone have any specific stretching videos targeting low back pain that they like? I know any of them that mention legs/back should help, but didnt know if they have any videos specifically for people with chronic pain.

Sometimes you need to get changed or take a nap after all that bronzing, bro.

Another week, another PR. Club’s bike, not watching HR and had a couple days of rest.

The FTP test plus lifting really took a lot out of me and I’m finding my hip flexors are not loosening up with my normal stretching routine.

Any tips out there?

I just set another PR with this ride. That was a tough, but fun ride. Playlist was pretty good BTW

I do downward dog, pigeon pose, and lie on my back and pull my legs towards my chest for a few minutes after a ride.

  1. Try to do at least a 5 minute stretch class after each ride.
  2. Do you have a foam roller? Adding foam rolling is huge.

The benefit I gained was endurance and resilience. Comes in real handy on day three of that summer buddies trip when everyone else is moaning into their breakfast beer and I’m picking up skins.

Seriously though, the first year I struggled a bit because my body was adjusting to the workload (full disclosure: I was 43 and out of shape). The second year I was down 30 pounds and a lot more flexible bc I HAD to do cooldowns and stretches to keep up the training pace. That summer I noticed I was better in two day events and did not feel nearly as sapped after walking 18 - - - that translated into better rounds/practice.

I’m a big fan of Becs Gentry’s lower body stretches and MW’s foam rolling stuff.
