side note, two buddies and I used to sing the first verse and chorus of What’s Goin On on people’s voicemail when we were super shitfaced.
good times.
Emma dominated me again. Her latest 90s rock ride might be the hardest one yet, or maybe that’s just because I set a new PR (only by about 5kj, but still). She wastes no time in this ride and gets after it right from the start with lots of big resistance sections.
If that wasn’t enough, I’m on day 3 of the crush your core program and I actually have to take some breaks during. Apparently my core is made of mush. Or more likely it’s made of ice cream.
20min of yoga with Aditi was a welcome cool down at the end of all this.
My roommate my senior year of college was a really good guitar player. I have almost zero musical ability. He decided he would teach me how to play the easiest song he could think of. It was What’s Going On
Took the Denis White Stripes ride last night. Wasn’t looking to push so my numbers were pretty meager. I should take more Denis rides though. I like his idea of a climb vs. Kendall or Devil Pixie’s idea of 70+ resistance and 80+ cadence somehow being a “climb”
stick with it and it goes up quickly. if you go back to when I started in this thread back in Jan, my peak outputs were barely over 300 for 30min, and I wasn’t exactly starting from square 1. I’m not improving as fast as before because I’m not on the bike as much, but it’s still improving.
If you are ever intimidated by someone else’s numbers just remember bikes tend to loosen and therefore those numbers are fake. Your bike is clearly harder to ride. That’s what I do. Ya’ll are all cheating compared to the hard work I’m putting in.
I probably should’ve clarified… I’m absolutely not getting discouraged. I know I’m horribly out of shape, and as long as I see improvement in my numbers (or I feel better) that’s all that matters.
If sucking actually discouraged me I’d probably be on a message board for a different sport
Also for the newer folks here, there are a few folks on this board who are consistently in the top 5% of the leaderboard on their rides. Support them, congratulate them … and move on. If I tried to compare my output to them I’d be so discouraged I’d quit. Just work on personal improvements abd you’ll be great.
Everyone’s bike is calibrated differently… the leaderboard is mostly useless tbh.
Which is why I STRONGLY recommend doing the Power Zone training. I gained like 15% strength/output after 3 months by just learning to spin properly… my leaderboard position never changed during this time.
I’ve had the peloton for about 2 weeks and just started the power zone training. I’m excited about it. Seems like they structure it like you’re preparing for a race which is cool.
I’m definitely hoping to see some improvements because that test was a tough scene.
I like PZ rides because there is quite a variety in the types of classes, instructors are all different etc. The FTP test is 20 minutes of hell (make sure you take the 15 min FTP warmup ride before) - but once your bike has your FTP scores, there’s something really engaging about the bike telling you what zone you need to be in and you don’t have to focus on cadence or resistance callouts… since these numbers are unique based on your own FTP score/zone thresholds. It’s truly a train against yourself approach.
For the PZ riders, is there anyway to have the Zone callout shown on the screen? I havent taken many PZ rides, but when I do I get frustrated losing track of what zone I am supposed to be in.
Once you take the FTP test - it will save your FTP score in the bike (you can go into your settings and change it later), but the FTP test will prompt the bike to save it. After that, it will always pop up during PZ rides.
The first couple rides of the PZ training program are kind of funky because you are estimating what your zones are based on the 1-7 scale, but after the FTP test, everything will change.
