I always suspected my bike reported lower watts than it felt like. My heart rate on the peloton has always been much higher than my outdoor bike. Been doing all my harder rides outside lately and today did an FTP test on the peloton and struggled so much more than expected to hold 298w.
So I took my power meter pedals off my outdoor bike and put them on the peloton and sure enough the peloton is way lower, and i way more trust the pedals as they are accurate to 1%.
Ok guis time for another update to the weekly challenge. I did Ben’s ride earlier in the week and snagged a new PR which was nice considering my activity on the platform has been down a bit lately.
This week is Olivia’s 30 Min Classic Rock from 6/4/20. Thanks @greebs for the rec and @ChickPhilA please update the title anytime. The devil pixie is a popular instructor lately. Remember to update the spreadsheet with rides for future weeks!
That’s really disappointing. So much of the fun of the leaderboard is predicated on everyone’s machine being roughly equal. That is so far off (>20%). Muy no bueno.
This has a been a known thing about peloton leaderboard for a while. It’s all about how each bike is calibrated. A lot of my rides on my bike for PZ have me in the 50% margin on the leaderboard…took one on my buddies bike and was in the top 10%.
I think this is why I like PZ the most - your not competing with the leaderboard by definition, but it does stink to not have the leaderboard as a motivating factor.
Calibration is super simple for Peloton - they’ll mail you the little plastic piece if you go to the help/support function on the bike and note that your metrics are off.
I’d also look at the stretching classes they are a godsend. For golf I’d look at Lower Body as well as Hips, and Full Body stuff to include your back. I am not a big Yoga guy so can’t help you there
I am a convert. I used to foam roll the usual things at the gym but started taking the classes and have worked out so many tight areas I never knew how to get to. In the back and chest one I rolled my lats for the first time ever, holy #$% did it hurt but my freedom of motion was so much better. I try to roll a few times a week and really should do a different group every day. It’s awesome.
I second this…I’ve always sucked at yoga and stretching and with some of the yoga classes i get frustrated because I can’t get into some of the positions. BUT I’ve found two ten minute focus flows: one for hips the other hamstrings that are pretty easy and doable and do seem to have helped!
What are folks thoughts on Bradley Rose? I’ve now taken a couple of his classes and really like him. Great energy and good personality. Classes are challenging as well.
Took this ride today out of your recommendation. Hard to believe how much power Olivia is able to generate, kind of insane. Not a fan of the playlist, was very generic Classic Rock.
The rest of the nesters who have taken this ride are beasts!
I haven’t had too much soreness/tightness other than the one workout I overdid it. I always take a 5 or 10min cool down ride on days I’m on the bike, then on off days I like to do 10min of stretching and 30min of yoga that tends to be a “flow” of some sort. I’m particularly a fan of Aditi. If you do 30min it will get into your hams, glutes, and hips, which is what you need. The shorter 10 or 20min classes is where the classes are that will really focus on a particular muscle group.
