NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

Sure - but then they couldn’t get their “rides per user” engagement and adoption KPIs up.

It goes both ways, though. Hitting the “Century Club” and knowing that a third of those rides were 5 or 10 minute cool downs didn’t feel right.

As hollow as it feels for the people that get shoutouts for their 1800th ride?

I mean, I assume those folks have done at least … 1200 actual rides, maybe? At the end I don’t care at all, but I’m definitely at least somewhat less impressed with the 1800 rides than I was initially. It’s still a shockingly high number. But the fact that they count everything DOES make it a bit more understandable.

My buddy who got me into this has been on the bike for 2-3 years and he’s religious about it and has something like 850 rides. The 1,800 folks are putting in work, whatever that work is

I almost always delete my cool downs, it feels like the TC way.

I think some of those people are doing multiple 5 min warmup/cool down rides to get those numbers up. Not that I care or anything but people out there think there’s clout to gain pumping up ride numbers…

Plus, because I cool down with another ride I never stretch at the end of a regular ride bc I save it until after my cool down

I don’t delete my warm up and cool down rides because they serve a purpose. Knocking out a half dozen 5 minute rides to up your count is scunmy.

Also, having been in the bike for almost 3 years and having been way deeper into FB Peloton communities in the past, there ARE some people for whom this is their only thing. They don’t have golf, hiking, painting, etc…they Peloton hours a day. So it doesn’t surprise me too much when there are people with silly high ride counts.

Actually, I’m fairly sure the company came back about a year ago and started promoting the instructors to tell people to rest and Put less emphasis on comparing themselves to others. The tone was different in the first year or so I rode—it’s become a Little more mass and my impression is (this is just anecdotal on my part) is because there was once much more online conversation about injuries due to overwork. Knee problems, stress fractures, that sort of thing.

That’s what I was insinuating.

Interesting, I wonder how much of that shift in tone can also be attributed to online criticism of how garbo the lb is. Why would you continue to promote competition against other riders when it’s been really well documented that many bikes aren’t within the variance specs you promise? Not drawing attention to the value you’re not delivering is marketing 101.

Idk why y’all get so up in arms about warm ups and cool downs. So what that I got the bike in May and already have 2,000 rides? Who cares if I just keep starting rides all day while I work, but don’t actually ride.

Y’all are scummy for insinuating my rides mean any less than yours!

So…Here we are again…its almost noon CST and the title still shows last weeks challenge…

Someone please!

Be careful what you ask for…

This one has been on my list for a while. The Dead is one of my preferred course music- easy to have on in the background.

I will hold on making in official since I know it’s polarizing to some people.

No way. Change the title and let it rip. If people want to skip it, that alright there is always next week.

Giddy up all you groovy cats.

Nice! I’m doing the PowerZone Pack stuff so I skipped the HIIT ride last week but I think I’ll add this one in as my extra ride as I dig Jenn and I’m super curious to see how the Grateful Dead work with cycling.

Note: I might be one of the few here who is old enough to have gone to multiple Dead shows when Jerry was very much alive. Also, a lot of the Dead still live nearby (I’m in Marin County, CA) and there’s a restaurant here called Terrapin Crossroads owned by Phil Lesh and apparently he and others show up every now and again to jam. I’ve been there a handful of time (the food is great) but never seen them.
