This one, you never clarified.

hope you are well

Sounds like we don’t so less cryptic non-haikus, more transparency?

Not sure if this golf subject has been discussed here, but I just heard a Paige Spiranic interview on ESPN radio here in Chicago.

She’s had a hell of a ride and I respect her. Had to have been an emotional roller coaster the last 5+ years.

Home schooled > aspiring Olympic gymnast > turned golfer > elite junior player > transfers schools > leads her golf team to conference championship > becomes Instagram sensation while trying to make it pro > now doing her thing (whether you like that or not is up to you.

She’s been pretty honest about all the bullying she’s also received and I can’t imagine what type of shit gets sent to her.

I actually think she’d be good on the main NLU pod.

Curious what other ladies in particular think about her and her influence/career. Despite her following being driven by men I could actually believe a case that she’s gotten lots of other women into the game, too.

She’s actually pretty funny to trolls on Twitter too.

I respect her as a golfer and a woman. I personally don’t watch her content but I know I could probably learn a lot from her. Mostly, she’s extremely impressive from a business perspective. Clearly, brilliant brand builder and entrepreneur. I’d love to hear her on the pod. I’m not in the camp of women that are offended by her or think she is degrading women in the game. I think she has an excellent business model, is extremely talented, and is an alternative image for a sport that has traditionally suppressed women’s femininity and sexuality or excluded women entirely.

To people who view her negatively, I’d say go to YouTube and type “Be a Lady They Said” and watch that video:

Yeah, I think she would be interesting as a podcast guest

I wish I had a good concise answer for you but this is a topic that I do struggle with. I think that you can want multiple things to be true at once: that instaslurps live their best life free of bullying, that golf had more space for women to make their mark in professional golf, golf analyst, and otherwise in the golf landscape without being extremely hot…

I’ve tried to outline my thoughts further elsewhere, but overall I don’t really have any good answers…

thanks for sharing the thoughts and perspective.

You examined it quite thoroughly in that epic post. It is a quandary. The presenters that have emerged in the last few years — while being golf sickos and largely grown up in the game — are still seen as pretty and appealing to the male gaze. I’m speaking of Kira Dixon, Amanda Renner and Hally Leadbetter.

The Grueter Golf Girls (@gruetergolf) do a good job of threading that topic with some fun nuance. But at the end of the day, yer post speaks best to this undefinable gray area where media outlets seem to require beautiful women to appeal to their male-dominated viewership.

If my memory serves me right 2/3 of them were getting married this summer and they were planning on a break.

One of the few things I appreciate about EAL is he made me aware of Liz Breed (@shank.haney) who kicks all sort of ass and doesn’t fit into the Barbie doll thirst trap mold whatsoever and is an absolute stick. More of this please

My club routinely puts the yellow and red markers together after a lot of rain. Everyone loves it and it makes the pace of play go faster. We also put out cones for new players on par 5s so that they are closer to the hole. It’s helped retain new golfers and pace of play.

Cannot believe it’s ladies golf day. But I did play golf! At peacock gap in San Rafael, CA. What did you do today?

Oh! I played with my spouse, and we walked for the first time since in a year! Also, apparently the PGA merged with LIV, and somehow that seems apropos.

Also, I played like a tire fire, and I still only posted a 105. In the past, me playing like a tire fire was me posting something in the 120’s! So, that’s progress, at least?

Tire fire, brilliant way to describe a round. Minus 12 on your score!! We’ve All been there but that was hilarious.
