NLU Ladies

Oh, yes - i just meant “comments on the internet” are almost always populated by the worst denizens of the internet, regardless of topic. But I’m glad that The Refuge is a healthy place and not toxic for the far too few ladies who frequent here.

I am honestly surprised at the lack of toxic masculinity on this site. It’s the reason I stick around. I am on a college football board and it’s a cesspool.

There is much less than normal, for sure. But it’s here—what’s super great is that there are hoards of us who are willing to call out idiocy when we see it!

Absolutely it’s here. It’s just noticeably less than most online spaces. And there is a concerted effort to shut it down when it happens.

Hi ladies,

I’m hoping y’all can help me with something. We recently upgraded my fiancées driver and she’s very happy with it. Next up is her irons. Except I’ve had a tough time finding any stores that carry more than one women’s set of irons.

I guess my question is where do y’all find your irons? The women’s iron game around my area is a tough scene right now.

Thanks in advance

I don’t use women’s irons or any “women’s” branded golf equipment. I believe “women’s” golf clubs are a marketing ploy.

I played with women’s clubs for 2 years and when I went to get properly fitted they explained to me that women’s clubs are shorter, lighter (esp driver), and much more flexible than necessary for a 5’6” semi-athletic 26 y/o. There might be cases where specs on women’s branded clubs make sense but you can also get men’s branded clubs with those same specs (shorter shaft, high flex, etc).

Easiest way to find irons that she will enjoy is to take her to a golf shop and have her try some out whether they are “women’s” or “senior” or “men’s” probably won’t be the differentiating factor.

Once you start thinking this way the golf club type purchasing universe opens up immensely and you’ll find irons in no time!

That makes so much more sense, I feel foolish for not thinking of it. Especially considering she can easily play senior flex clubs and possibly a lighter regular flex shaft. Thank you so much for that insight, the light bulb just went off.

I came here to say the same thing that @Brenskiis said!

I would look at your regular golf store, and depending on what stores you have, there are also often used sets if she doesn’t want to invest money into a new set.

I’m also spoiled, though, as I live locally to Mike’s Golf Outlet. If there are any Play It Again stores around you, they sometimes have interesting golf clubs there for pretty inexpensive.

I have gotten WAY too into getting old iron sets due to YOTB, and can also suggest ebay as an option, if you are thinking of inexpensive options, especially if you might end up pulling the clubs apart to get them fitted to her.

Also ditto’ing everyone else here. Go hit all the clubs that she can at the store!!

Echoing what has been said above, my wife plays senior shafts / “men’s” clubs. She’s 5’9” and so she didn’t even consider “women’s” irons

However, I have purchased “women’s” irons from callawaypreowned. My sons all played them when they were 10/11 before they started swinging 200 mph!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it’s appreciated. We’re going to head to a store soon snd test out various shafts and flexes and she can decide what feels best for her. I think she’ll be either senior flex or regular flex with lighter shafts. She’s super excited and I’m hoping this is the beginning of a journey into golf sicko-ism for her.

Question for the NLU Ladies group, do any of you have golf shirts from Peter Millar and if so, do they fit true to size?

Thanks!

I have just one and think it fits pretty perfectly. I buy a large to have shirts fit a little looser, and it provides a lot of breathing room.

Thanks!!!

I have one as well, I went with XL but probably could have gone to a large if I was going to tuck it in all the time. Untucked though, xl fits my hips better (aka falls over them instead of getting stuck on them).

I’ve had some sweaters but no shirts. I can pull off a mens small now and then but I do not like tight so I tend to get ladies medium to large depending on the cut.

I knew I’d see the Greenbrier on there. My wife loved it when she went. She’s not a golfer, but loved the resort even though she got taken to task for using the incorrect knife to butter her bread at dinner. The correct one was wrapped up in her napkin on her lap. Not her fault, but she was not spared a stern word from the server.

Enjoy the Greenbrier, but make sure to pack your manners.
