Great job on the pod @Sarah!
@gruetergolf You guys got any beans to spill about the co-ed challenge this September? My wife and I are hoping to be the first ones in line to register.
Love that the hype is already building! The beans are still being cooked right now but we can guarantee that it will be the best of all worlds: stimulating yet friendly competition at a high-quality golf course, fantastic prizes for all participants, and, best of all, it’s looking like it will be “safe” to include a party component, so bring your dancing shoes.
Fun fact: Haley is currently the only member of the GG Founding Foursome with an official handicap, so we’ll all be working towards sharpening those up all summer in preparation for this event. Should make for interesting content.
Feel free to chime in with suggested musical acts or dream celebrity surprise guests!
We assume those car Boston baked beans…
*also: love the podcast.
I can’t wait to sign up for this!
Hi everyone,
I’m new here and just wanted to say how glad I am to have found the NLU ladies forum!
I’m an enthusiastic beginner golfer. First time I touched a club was 3 years ago but became more serious [obsessed] a year ago. I’m in San Francisco and still working on breaking 100. I’m at the stage of grinding (golf lessons, practice, and consistent play) but I can’t quite get over the hump yet. But very happy every time I get out for a round.
Big fan of NLU podcast and YouTube and I just joined the Refuge a few days ago. It should be called the Treasure Trove though, not the Refuge, because there is so much awesome knowledge here.
Cheers
Brenda
Hi and welcome!! Glad you’ve found our little corner of the internet!!
If you have any questions at all fire away, and be sure to check out all the other threads including the roll call threads (esp the one for the Bay Area).
NorCal has a big contingency of refugees you can #getinvolved with. And the refuge has been one of the most welcoming places for us gals who golf
Welcome! Glad to have you join the crew. You’ll soon find out that a lot of people think the NLU ladies are the real MVPs of the Refuge
I’m up in Canada, but Bay Area is one of my first must-visits once the border opens up! Lots of golf courses I’m excited to visit in the area
Thanks @ChickPhilA! I checked out Bay Area forum and it looks great – the folks there are already giving me tips on how to best get onto a course I’m interested in. Very active and welcoming bunch.
@Sarah I do not doubt the ladies are the real MVPs. If you do come down to the Bay let’s play a round together if you’re up for it – there are so many great courses here.
Hi, Brenda, and welcome! You have some amazing public golf courses in the Bay Area. I lived in Foster City for work one summer and played the par 3 and practiced at Mariners Point nearly every day.
Everyone at NLU is supportive and helpful so don’t be afraid to ask questions and share your triumphs and failings. There is a lot to learn about the game, and that’s what intimidates so many beginners. But we all had to learn everything and we’re here to help.
Fore!
Ellen
Welcome @Brenskiis!
I second all the things the other gals said. Especially the MVP comment
Hey all. My wife is showing interest in the game, and I could use some recs trying to fill out her franken-bag. Right now, I think a hybrid is what she needs most. She’s a beginner, but fairly athletic and strong, the ball moves when she squares it up, but she’s still getting the swing and setup basics down. Any thoughts on brands/models/lofts you’ve liked, especially for beginners?
I have honestly struggled the most with my hybrids, like took them out of my bag struggled (until I can get out to a range and practice with them) So I am of no help here!
I picked up a pretty cheap but decent condition Callaway option off the electronic bay. She’s gonna get lessons this summer, and if she gets into it, we’ll get a whole new set, and I’ll be back in here asking for recs.
Gals! How is everyone’s season going? I went full sicko for two weeks but Ontario went back to a full lockdown, kinda, two-ish weeks ago. Please tell me you’re all getting some rounds in!
Been trying to get out and play quite a bit. Handicap is going in the wrong direction unfortunately…need to sort out ball striking and straighten out the driver
Have been playing all the golf. Was back down at my lowest index ever soon after the “season” opened for scoring, but have creeped back up a half point as of now.
I am keeping track of every round (round being either 9 or 18) and so far have been out 28 times since Jan 1!! Thankful we haven’t had to shut stuff down again covid wise here in Nj. Hope you guis in Ontario get unlocked soon!!
Leaving Saturday for a vegas golf trip - 5 rounds in 4 days and meeting up with some fellow refugees. Can’t wait!!!
I struggle big time with hybrids. I got fitted and the fitter INSISTED that I need a hybrid and to forget long irons so I listened. Turns out he was wrong and I can’t make contact with a hybrid so I ordered just ordered a 5i and I am striping that club!!
DITTO!
I got fitted for a 4h and 5h and after 2 seasons of wishing I just had an iron lower than my 6 (which I hit very well) I switched to 5i too and it’s been wayyyy better.
