NLU Film Room: Playing Lessons (Soly)

Buried at the bottom of the Film Room playlist. Glitch in the matrix or Soly shot 50 on the front?

This is something I needed to see a bit. Little snippets, but just hearing from a touring pro/ex tour pro that putting from off the green is OK…It’s something i verrrry rarely do, but need to get better with it

Not a club fitter. But maybe 1 degree flatter on the irons could keep those start lines where he is comfortable starting them?

“To hit a fade you need the ball further up in your stance anyway.” - J. Huebs.

Um. Excuse me? Every time I move the ball up in my stance I hit a draw and moving the ball back in my stance helps me straighten that out/hit a fade.

How are you hitting a fade with the ball more forward? What am I doing wrong?

moving the ball back to hit a draw is correct, as in the 3D world, with an in-out swing, you will be more from the inside…so as long as you control face, the ball should draw

It’s an overly simple explanation, but YMMV

Different swing thoughts for different folks

My thought process is that the further the ball is forward in my stance, the more into my “release” and thus the more closed my face will be.

This is so weird to me. But really cool to learn.

I think the difference is that you would presumably be holding the release until after you hit the ball, so the club face would still be pointed at target at impact, but with more of an out to in path based on the ball being further forward at impact.

Fade starts left of target line and “fades” back on the line. Front of the stance ball position gives the club more time to turn the corner and produce that right to left path. For a fade the club needs to actually be closed to the target line but open to the club path. (Ex. club path 4 degrees out to in at impact with the club face pointing 2 degrees left)

Putting the ball back in the stance and holding the face open to that path can certainly produce a left to right ball flight as well, but that’s basically just a block with cut spin on it. Nothing wrong with it you just gotta aim way left and it’s just gonna go very high because of how open the face has to be

We NEED Hueber on here so we can pick his brain on some of these tidbits.

The further down the release line the ball is, the more left you are swinging at contact. So you’re kind of across the line with your club path. With a square/open face, it creates a fade.

Shut the face down and that is the left, going left miss.

I mean, I hit the ball extremely high by default. So, this doesn’t surprise me I guess when I hit the ball a little higher.

Thank you everyone for your responses!

Nice to see a smart person write out what my driver swing has been most of my adult life

Hey @Soly, was this filmed before the Gasparilla? I noticed you’re still using the slant neck Scotty in this, curious if you’re still committed to it or trying to find something closer to your old putter

This song has been stuck in my head for well over a year. I truly cannot escape it
