throwing in the towel that easy huh? Would have thought you could use this excuse to make sure you got a ticket.

“yeah, gotta go to Bandon that week sorry… no no, I’m not playing, but @djpie needs a ride and I’m just that kind of guy”

Me after dropping @djpie off at Bandon and watching everyone head out to play

Can I afford it?
My wife would say likely not.
Overtime it is.

What then is money?
Memories last forever.
I hear you calling.

The roaring ocean.
Set against majestic land.
Bandon forever.

"Bandon Dunes is walking-only, however, riding golf carts are available to all guests with a permanent disability that prevents them from walking their round. Such a request must be arranged with documentation prior to arrival and recommended outside of the 30-Day cancellation policy. "

Its possible to ride with doctors note. Super spendy. They will charge cart fee and also require a caddie since there are no cart paths. But possible.

Hypothetically, I’ll be in two lotteries for once in a lifetime golf experiences for next year. Assuming I was born under the blessings of St. Rappeo and somehow landed an opportunity to attend both:

  • 150th Open at St. Andrews plus a few links rounds with dad and brother
  • NLU Bandon with non-golfing wife over our anniversary week; would have to add experiences and extend trip for her, too
  • Both (we’re talking $10000+(?) including airfare/food/lodging/merch/golf; also factor in cost of divorce lawyer and lost opportunity costs of my child not going to college)
  • Neither (happy wife but a lifetime of ragrets)

British Open with your dad 100% and it’s not close. Trips like that don’t come around too often, but Bandon is gonna be there a loooong time.

A lot of people trying to keep you out of the lottery in that poll.

voted St. Andrews, firmly believe St. Andrews - but I think that applies in a normal world. There is a non-zero chance where gambling on international travel and having no idea what COVID looks like next summer leaves you with 0 trips.

Let’s please not make this a thing. Does the trip encompass the day itself? Otherwise this should be a non issue.

100% St. Andrews. My dad told me last week he signed up on a group trip to go for the 150th. I’d trade just about anything to share that experience with him. buddies trip is grand, but a week with your dad and brother at the home of golf. That’s an experience you may never have another chance at.

I was able to attend the 2010 Open at St. Andrews with my father, and also pack in some rounds around Scotland, and it was honestly one of the greatest experiences of our lives. 10/10; would recommend.

Ranks just ahead of the 2015 Bandon pilgrimage I took with him; can’t go wrong either way, but St. Andrews just feels more special

It does in fact encompass the day itself (April 25). In the before times, our first few anniversaries we took a week-ish long flyaway trip. We haven’t been able to do that for 2020 or 2021, so I feel somewhat obligated to make 2022 a little over-the-top. Of course, this is all academic and for fun, considering right now I’m not eligible for either trip, and the odds are quite high I never will be.

Let’s do it!

Over / under on how many people win the lottery then pull out bc they couldn’t get permission to go

I just hope that I at least get the opportunity to be told no

They’re going to need to announce a full list of 64 alternates to go along with the actual winners.

I’m feeling good about my chances. I haven’t won the Augusta tickets lottery for over 20 years, so I’m due.

There needs to be shaming or punishment for people who sign up then drop out.
