Same!!! It is a travesty. I have one buddy who has been selected like 3 times in the last like 8 years and I have been putting in since they started the lottery lol
They have a pretty established process for quickly moving people off the waitlist for events + you usually have to have some skin in the game in the form of a deposit (if not the whole amount). Keeps last minute scratches with no opportunity to fill the slot to a minimum.
@adodgerfan I think the move is I go ahead and set aside money for this now. When I inevitably don’t get picked, I take said money and buy a simulator and download all the Bandon courses. Then, when the time comes for the trip, I play along with all the lucky winners from the sad fortress of solitude that is my basement. In an attempt to trick myself, I will ask my wife to refer to our house as “Chrome Lake” and the kitchen as “McKee’s Pub”. I will take time off work that I already requested in advance as a futile attempt to speak a win in the lottery into existence. I’ll check in on the thread, constantly, watch as everyone is mirthfully posting pictures, inside jokes and general news from the event. I’ll like some posts, I’ll respond once or twice with a picture of me in the basement with my simulator “hey look guys, I’m playing too HAHAHAHAHAHA…ISN’T THIS SO MAGICAL”. The posts will rightfully be ignored. I’ll be shamed into silence. But I will continue to watch the thread and continue to play in solitude on the simulator, ignoring my family. By the end of the “trip”, reality will certainly set in. This is a sham. Who was I kidding? My eyes water at the stark truth. As the tears of sadness and emptiness flow down my face, I will know that the life of mankind is nasty, brutish and short. And then I will off course get ripped off trying to B/S/T my simulator by some new kind of Paypal scam.
This is going to be trepic, … sad to see anyone thinking there is ill intent, because BD is heaven on earth, and I only see joy and happiness to share the opportunity for us nesters. I’m so jazzed I think I might actually give to the cardboard sign holders to garner some good fortune and increased chances of being selected. Need some good roll here … thanks TC and gang for setting this in motion.
For my trip, we were told Old Mac would not be available that time of year for some maintenance.
I will too request TO and set asside the dinero. I will, likely, no get picked, buy first class flights to Nashville (might as well spend the money I set aside), and join you at your “Chrome Lake” and play on the simulator…I will then have to set aside more money for the divorce attorney my wife will request after I dont go to Bandon, but instead go to Nashville to play simulator golf in a basement instead of staying with her and our at the time 11 month old girl…
Did I already block off those dates from my work schedule? Yes. Will I inevitably not be picked? Most likely. Will I still take those days off and play golf somewhere? Also most likely
maybe we should use this forum to plan a back up trip…somewhere a little more flexible and easily accessible…@vandyland, do you think we can get Erroll to get us the cabin at TGC??? or I always saw ads for the cabins at Hermitage…Nashville is pretty central for the Bandon rejects…
I was just thinking all the rejects should plan an anti-Bandon trip. Maybe to Brandon, MS. Anyone know anything about Patrick Farms Golf Course? Brandon, VT looks good too. Neshobe Golf Course looks lush on google maps
NLU a-Bandon-ed 2022
The WAGS of my squad always joke about making t shirts that say aBANDONment DUNES
yes the WAG’s are on to the “abandon” dunes joke in our squad as well.
Wishing all of you good luck! Between our wedding and spec home finishing, the $$ just isn’t in the cards this time around.
@westerj12 Brandon is right near Jackson, MS, where I went to college. You do not want to go to central MS for golf. Jackson, MS is where public golf goes to die. Patrick Farms is good relative to Jackson publics but stinks in the global sense.
@adodgerfan I love Hermitage, but can you imagine going from dreaming about Bandon to playing Hermitage (paging Kyle Porter re: Memphis take)? If you’re coming all the way to TN we might as well just try to get the Birdhouse and do Sweetens and Sewanee.
On a serious note, Sand Valley would likely be an excellent substitute.
Wow. Brand new here but long time listener. This is so sick!
Sick…excited to see this!!
the mental miss. key part of the routine. well done
Well if I have to make the choice between this trip and 27 years of marriage… it was a good 26 year run!
positive vibes only
