Nest Invitational Tournament aka NIT - Viiibbiiinnnggg

If you don’t think a perfectly timed fart in someone’s golf swing is funny then, gosh Jed, I don’t even want to know ya.

If you get too quick in either the result ends up being pretty shitty.

Our shenanigans are cheeky and fun, his shenanigans are cruel and tragic

Absolutely no need to apologize. You player your ass off and did what you needed to do. I begrudge no one (especially a fellow Irishman :shamrock:). None of this was done to out anyone or complain about anything. I’m just a nerd and love looking at numbers.

Someone mentioned gross scores. A top 5 of gross scores shows:

  1. @MattyB - 113
    T2. @Mwilhelm10 - 111
T2. @phegs32 - 111 (bonus points should be awarded for each round played barefoot)
  2. @Golden3278 - 106
    T5. @Fluff - 104
    T5. @CSquared07 - 104

To @anon47037505 point about low caps birdie rate is in fact higher. This weekend we saw:

30+ quota: 1.4 birdies/round
20-29: 0.6/round
<20: 0.4/round

I was curious as to the weight of the birdie for someone’s quota (ie a birdie for a 16 quota is 25% of their quota whereas a birdie for a 36 quota is just 11% of their quota). However, the numbers do show that the advantage is to low caps:
30+: 17% of points from birdies
20-29: 9%
<20: 11%

As a member of the lo-cap contingent I feel compelled to speak up.

I get plenty of chances to grind out scores against top competition all season in local am events, state series qualifiers and USGA qualifiers. I’m pretty sure that isn’t the same vibe that the NLU guis want for the NIT. I played rather shitty golf all weekend and still had an awesome time regardless.

The beauty of the NLU community is the varying degrees of skill and experience among its members. The mix of players in the finals displayed just that.

Not that I’m not immensely enjoying @anon47037505 and @Lazstradamus and whoever else arguing the minutiae of tournament scoring strategy (I’m immensely not), but it’s time to take that shit to the DM’s. I want to hear about backstopping

Edit: not because I want to flame somebody, but because it’s part of the fun. Pretty sure the whole fucking point of this thing was the fun

Who remembers when @anon24718094 offered @BaxterMSP $50 to hit 17 green from 114 out and he blew it about 30 yards left? That was sick

I am incredibly comfortable for how I moderated my alcohol intake and subsequent conduct all weekend, thank you kindly, sir.

The backstopping is a non-story. Pace of play is the main defense. A great approach from the champ well back in the fairway was followed up by a less than stellar chip from close to green side. It did happen to get saved by champ’s ball but racing daylight there was no time to wait for the 100yd walk for him to mark the ball. Unfortunate/fortunate series of events that had no effect on the final outcome of the tournament.

Tell it again but make it more interesting and/or sinister

As someone who wasn’t there, isn’t this is exactly what every backstopping player says??

Another idea - did any of the Vibey Boys change kits between the morning and afternoon rounds on Friday? If not, why not, and get on my fucking level

After a dodgy hook left on #1 to start the finals, @JCO was rounding back into form. A nippy pitch to 2” on #2 had him back in championship form. @Hwhite had him play smart on #3 with a solid iron down the right side of the fairway. Meanwhile @AirMailWedges long driving had been negated by some wayward chipping. Determined that it was a fluke, he again tried to drive the green on #3. While @JamesHCard was playing from 7 fairway through the trees Clint played a brilliant approach to 15’ above the hole. Tyler and I had been evaluating his barren lie on mud surrounded by roots. With the pin on the very front I repeated “BE SHORT. It’s a straight putt up from short of the green. Short right is fine too but DON’T BE PAST THE HOLE.” I back off to let my player execute the game plan and next thing I know I see the ball scurrying along the ground at a pace that might have it on #4 tee box. Sure enough, it nails Clint’s ball and stops dead. Ironically Tyler drains the birdie putt and Clint misses. Things seem to be swinging in our favor potentially. This, until we leave birdie putts 0.5” short on #4/#5. As they say, “ball don’t lie.”

I did not. It was a tough call, but I opted to pack light and go with a modest carry-on for my scripting. I was a bit frugal on airfare this time after blowing a few mortgage payments down at The Donnybrook.

I do think Friday’s fit was crispy. Amethyst Lululemon shorts, Navy allover wayward logo performance polo, tie dye lie and loft hat and tie dye Nike Victory Tours.

There were other fits that were pretty spicy out there, but I gotta be honest - more were forgettable.

Edit: @Fluff’s hat on Saturday was absolutely a money move.
