One of my favorite things is to click on this when Youtube suggests it and see how long it takes me to feel terrible.

I made it 2:15 today.

Not sure who’s all in the hard rock/metal scene in here, but Starset is one of my favorite bands. They range from hard rock to metal with tons of electronic influence and plenty of sci-fi/space references in their lyrics and music.

They just released their 4th album, Horizons, and on it is a song called “Icarus”. Shoutout @MerchCzar, it’s a banger of a song

go on then, Icarus take your turn
you always fly right up until it burns your wings
you never could change always the victim
into the flames again
go on then, Icarus take your turn
you’ll never go through them

I’m mostly into melodeath now but I know all the good Metallica (pre-1990) and Disturbed (up to and including Indestructible, fight me) albums by heart from my younger days. Got real steep on In Flames, Killswitch Engage, and Avenged Sevenfold as a young adult and continued the spiral from there. Starset reminds me of Amaranthe: electronic effects added to metal roots.

Brilliance on the skins.

I’ll forever be a hater of Limp Bizkit but I know that band was an important part of some people’s childhoods.

Here’s the behind-the-scenes story from DJ Premier about how he made that track.

What’s that I didn’t hear you?

I’m currently listening to Khruangbin, a three-piece band out of Houston. Their music is like if Thievery Corporation inspired a chill surf rock band for a gig in a lounge under the sea.

Was supposed to see them at Red Rocks in September but decided not to travel. I’ll probably regret that my entire life.

Their episode of Austin City Limits just aired and, naturally, it’s pretty dope (starts at ~27 min).

The YouTube algorithm is constantly recommending this video to me. I guess I need to actually give it a spin someday.

That’s how I found it and I’m not exaggerating when I say I watch/listen to it at least once a week for the last year.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

Jack White released his first single in a while yesterday, along with two new albums coming out next year. Jack White – Taking Me Back (Official Video) - YouTube

If you’re a fan of his, or a fan of vinyl records and make it to Detroit, highly suggest touring his Third Man Records pressing plant and checking out the store in the Midtown area.

So great! I’ve heard Jack White will show up randomly whenever he’s in the city, but haven’t been lucky enough to see it yet

JJ Wilde opening for The Record Company. This woman was on fire.

Maybe the best opener I’ve seen in a long time. Canada proud.

The Record Company at the Fox Theater in Boulder. On The Hill. Had Illegal Pete’s burritos before hand. I obviously was not a CU student.

Show was killer.

But hey. Don’t sleep on JJ Wilde.

I’ve been listening (re-listening?) to the Kid A mnesia release over the last week and it blows my mind how good almost all of these songs, and a ton of the bonus stuff, still are. I’m sure someone smarter than me has written about it, but Kid A especially sounds both like a product of the era and completely timeless. Maybe that’s indicative of how much it influenced a lot of the music I love, but damn if it’s not still a really amazing thing.

It’s been great revisiting some tracks from Red. Forgot how much I loved this song.
