This was great.
This podcast is so good! Probably my fav right now
Oh man, blast from the past! I remember seeing these guys at HOB in Myrtle Beach on some kond of Honda Civic sponsored mini-warped tour in 2002. We ended up hanging out at their RV after the showâŚ100% orange county pop punkers.
I think I still have this album on an iPod somewhere. Kiss Me, Diss Me was a banger.

Jar of Flies miiiight be my favorite album of all time. Itâs close. Top 5 for sure. At least if you asked me right now.
Had this EP on heavy repeat back when I was in college and never let up. The external CD player velcroâd to the dash of my Geo Metro with the tape cassette adapter was in full effect. (getting a CD player with good buffering was a must).
1994 was lit.
Alice In Chains unplugged is one of my favorites and I also really enjoy Jar of Flies
My 4yo will not allow us to listen to No Excuses anymore at our house. He got tired of hearing it
I struggle with Unplugged. Bittersweet at best.
One one hand, AiC.
On the other, itâs really evident that Layne is not well. Once it was pointed out, I canât stop hearing his lisp. The lisp caused by his teeth falling out. I think it was even mentioned on the Radio Ga-Ga pod on Dirt.
It was most definitely mentioned.
I can feel a lot of weight and sadness but also there is something to be said about the feelings of happiness of certain moments.
No excuses from unplugged sounds almost joyous. I feel as if they are smiling through it.
âWould?â Has a different tone too. This maybe sounds stupid but the tone of the final line
âIf I would, could you?â Feels positive to me and less heavy.
I really really like AIC. I would say that are one of my favorites at this stage in my life and it makes me sad that it took until the last 1-2 years to appreciate them.
Iâve got 30+ years and they never get old.
Facelift comes out in 90â and Iâm living in trailer home with 2 guys in Grand Forks ND by campus (sidenote: the Ralph hockey arena now sits on the site). One of my roommateâs buddies did the â18 month trade school, now I have have a job and moneyâ thing and bought a massive stereo/speaker system that almost got him kicked out of his apartment, so he parks it at our place for a bit. Klipsch I think. Just crazy. Way too much power. We crush the shit out of Facelift on that thing.
Dirt/Jar come out. Me and my Metro. Custom built Rockford Fosgate amp/speakers built into the back. Delivering pizzas. Good times.
Years later, AiC comes to Denver with Velvet Revolver. About this time of year. Outdoors. Day starts at 60F and sunny but by the time AiC comes on itâs raining and temp dropping fast. Iâm wearing shorts and a T-shirt and it starts SLEETING during âRain When I Dieâ. Epic. Weâre covered in ice. Oh, Velvet Revolver was cool too.
Next time. AiC at Red Rocks. Look across the crowd and the wind is whiping all the pot smoke around through the lights and up against the rocks. Truly a âYou know youâre at Red Rocksâ moment.
I put on a AiC song and Iâm transported through time it seems. Some of my most âmusic makes you rememberâ moments are via Alice.
Iâm blown away by the amount of quality work they put out in such a small compact window of time.
Edit; @rka currently playing jar of flies bowls
Always happy to go on a Metallica binge occasionally. My opinion, a Metallica cover band that just plays hardcore/thrash covers of their music would sell out every show. Everyone always acted too cool for them in the hardcore scene when I grew up, but would go insane for a Lepper Messiah 2 step.
Heaviest song ever written.
Also best friends.
I saw them in Atlanta on this tour, what a fucking show
Japandroids just makes me think of We Are Scientists.
Apropos of nothing, this band name makes me think of Thank You Scientist. s/o @bignanski
I had never seen this performance, holy shit
Omg. I LOVED we are scientists.
How can you not listen to this album!
Nobody move nobody get hurt is so good.
Also japandroids put on such a good show!!!
Bluecoat xylophones playing along to the guitar tapping?
