Sure, that’s impressive. But, has he started a movement?

Big mood. Every time I watch Matt Garstka play drums I can’t comprehend how you can ever get to that level. AAL isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but the skill is undeniable.

For a lot of music/drummers I can imagine how, with enough time, I could learn how to play their stuff. Definitely not his though lol. I feel the same away about most jazz drummers so with knowing he has a jazz background it makes sense why his playing just doesn’t compute with my brain.

Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree was one of the first drummers I felt that way about. So I don’t hijack this thread to talk about drummers I’ll throw out them as a band people should check out. Fear of a Blank Planet is one of their best songs (and albums) but Bonnie the Cat really highlights Harrison’s drumming.

This thread has been hijacked by much worse. Fire away.

I love Tosin, heard one of his songs today on the way home, but I much prefer his earlier band, Reflux. Caught them a few times in FL and for the first time in Vegas randomly with Evergreen Terrace.

Come for the sweeps, stay for the brutal breakdowns.

His new stuff is too progressive or something for me. It slaps but I’m not sure I could listen to more than a few tracks in a row before they start bleeding together.

You really want me to start spamming prog/tech death metal drummers? lol

George Kollias was my OG drum crush. He truly blew my mind the first time I heard/watched him because I wasn’t into death metal at that point so I had no idea what the fuck was happening. Over time I realized he’s not the greatest/most creative drummer out there but he’s still one of my faves.

Yeah, fuck these cowards. I’m not going to click on any prog shit, but I respect it and this is America. You’ve earned your freedom to spam.

It’s easy to descend into cynicism when discussing music because of what can only be described as a modern Mongolian cluster fuck of mumble rap and porn stars masquerading as singers. But you all can help restore a little faith by recognizing the following name …

King’s X

Somehow the Who have become underrated and I have no idea how it happened.

I hate this term but this song is an absolute banger. Would like it more if they ended it around 3:00 with ā€œswing of the YOWā€ but hey I’m not an artist.

Power Trip baffles me every day. You couldn’t start a band that screams thruby more than PT and I just can’t get into them. They should be my favorite band of all time and no one that knows me can believe I can’t get there. It’s wild.

My daughter can not stop bopping to these two jams!

I’ve long asserted that Led Zeppelin is the greatest ROCK band of all time. I actually thought this was well understood and agreed upon.

Most people who disagree try to argue it’s the Rolling Stones - but a few used to argue for The Who. I agree that for some reason they’ve sort of waned in recent years. Not sure why.

(Note: for those who want to argue it’s The Beatles, that’s rock n’ roll, not rock, and for those who want to argue it’s Black Sabbath, I’m not going to argue - oddly, they were formed the same year as Zeppelin, but I’d say they are more metal than pure rock.)

Unpopular opinion: The Beatles only became a rock and roll band, even, because of what their POP roots allowed them to do. I certainly appreciate and understand what they did and what they meant, but I’ve never been a fan (short for ā€œfanaticā€, remember.)

I can understand a conversation about ā€œThe Whoā€ because of such a wide range of sounds, ā€œaggressionā€ levels, and a rock-opera. I wouldn’t understand a Stones argument, either. And I’ve often heard that almost every rock band can trace their roots back to either Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. Often, Zeppelin sprouts the ā€œrockā€ side of the tree, and Sabbath sprouts the ā€œmetalā€.
