And the Klein H-E-B to boot!
has there been any thought to seeking contributions from females who operate in a similar space and mindset? With gambling going live for the LPGA, seems like an opportunity to grow content towards the ladies tour.
With that said, I don’t think you guys should be bringing on women just to talk about women’s golf. If the gang was to grow naturally, I’d personally like to see a female perspective or two to join the ranks.
So obviously Beth Ann Nichols isn’t part of the crew but her continued guest segments make her feel like part of a consistent approach to that coverage.
Easy, pal
I agree and her quarterly segments have been great. But what a perspective it would be if she was leading the podcast and using her insights to dive deeper, rather than being the guest.
Just to push back on that a little. While I think it’s important to have a women’s perspective and more women voices are vital to the overall growth, I think it’s also vital that men start talking about women’s sports. I think five guys sitting around talking about women’s sports is going to have a bigger impact on other men than bringing in a women to talk about women’s sports.
@tdogg21 thank you for expanding on my point.
edit: we’re all lying to ourselves if we don’t believe that women experience golf and perceive it differently than men. It’s the same game but significantly different at the same time. The 5 guys are great because they all have different perspectives. My outlook, is that if you are expanding perspectives, adding a woman’s would be something I’d greatly support.
Yes, yes and yes. I won’t pretend we can move overnight on everything, but the hope is to use our our platform to amplify different voices and perspectives, female or otherwise. We are very aware of our standing as 5 white males haha.
Agree wholeheartedly. I grew up in East Tennessee where (mostly due to the determination and success of one woman) women’s basketball is much more of a concern than the men’s team. They weren’t always on TV but they were constantly talked about on drive time radio by male hosts. While there was often still a stigma around the die hard fans, there were plenty enough men who became interested in the teams because they were constantly exposed to it in the newspaper and on the radio. The women’s program largely is responsible for the school building an arena that holds upwards of 24k people. Most of the funding, coincidentally came from men who cared about the success of the program. If you’re looking for an example of how exposure is important to the growth of dollars in the system, women’s college basketball is the greatest example I can find.
Came to a beatdown and wouldn’t you know it a discussion broke out
Some particular someone left the chat
Just to give some feedback here—I don’t think that’s setting Beth Ann up for success. She’s a writer, a big-j journalist. She and I discuss what we want to talk about and craft the agenda. We want to put her in a good position, like anybody. Asking her to host the podcast isn’t what she does. It’s like asking a guest to host the Jim Rome show or something.
I know you’re not fond of the term “influencer” but 5 white males talking about LPGA golf and making it “cool” could be very impactful on how other white males view LPGA golf. Hell, you guys have done a lot in making push carts cool! If you can do that, you can make just about anything cool.
I totally get that. Beth Ann was just used as a example of female contribution. It would take a while to bring in a female perspective and it would coincide with @tdogg21’s point, a new podcast for females may miss the mark.
I think we can all say, we have great faith in where you all are going with this and we enjoy being an active audience.
Beyond being “cool,” just getting more information and background from NLU that isn’t easily available elsewhere has directly led to me watching and following the LPGA waaaaaay more. Being suddenly informed and then invested in the stories makes a huge difference.
Still here. But nobody’s pretending we’re going to have purse equity in the next two years for the past 15 minutes, either.
I think it is more powerful to have guys talking about the women’s game than to have women talking about the women’s game. Better said, perhaps: I think it’s more powerful to have everyone talking about the women’s game rather than just women or primarily women.
I didn’t even have to @ you lol. Glad you’re very aware of your surroundings
Yeah, took a real genius to figure that one out.
He’s very self-aware
Why does this number keep shrinking. This wasn’t even an option in the poll
