Yeah, in especially my wife’s family, all the holidays are THINGS. It’s taken some getting used to since I don’t like people much.

Aside from all you sickos of course.

Yeah it’s both sweet and admirable, and also sounds like a nightmare for me. I hate that my MiL is a stickler to get a Christmas list (which also has to include my birthday because that’s 6 weeks before Xmas), despite how very generous my in-laws are with gifts

You mean you wouldn’t want to see both sides of the family for basically EVERY notable holiday/occasion? That doesn’t sound fun?!

Now imagine if you will that your parents are divorced and so are your in laws. And they all live at least 2 hours away from you and at least an hour away from one another.

Welcome to my Thanksgiving logistics.

If you have 5 Christmases, do you even have one?

no, what you do get is a ball of stress right behind your lungs and the guilt trip to last a year.

We used to do the same thing on thanksgiving. Drive an hour to my step mom’s family, then 30 minutes farther to my aunt’s for my mom’s side, then 70 minutes home for my wife’s. Now we only do the first two because I work Black Friday and her family decided to move theirs to that evening.

One of the worst fights my wife and I have ever had in our nearly 14 years together was on either a thanksgiving or Christmas, because we were running behind and stressed out and just got into it over god knows what

Samesies, and with a wife that’s one of 3 sisters, there’s always that unnecessary competitive element that adds fuel to the fire.

We made a decision several years ago that we need to do what’s best for our family for the big holidays. We think about our needs first and foremost and then plan from there. It might not be what others want to hear but tuff shit.

Arggh foiled by dates again this year. Really wanted this to make it on the calendar. Will be making first trip up to Traverse that Friday so will be in a mitten state of mind that weekend regardless. Here’s to some over 40 weather for the Fropen.

If we signed up on the Google Sheet should we fill this out as well?

Yes, unfortunately I need everyone to re-sign up on the UKG page. I have some (limited / manual) ability to drag people over, but with the registration and costs thing it’ll work better if everyone does so themselves.

Plus it forces ya’ll to sign up to UKG if you hadn’t already, which you’ll need for scorekeeping and results.

Had I known it was going to go this way I would’ve waited the week to create the signup, but you live and you learn…
