Thanks for organizing @Aham13 ! Had a great time out there despite our 0-3 result to lead off the groups.
+1 could not have had a better time out there @Aham13 !
Another shoutout to @Aham13. Had an absolute blast out there and I’ll forever cherish my corduroy hat
Enjoyed being able to show off my little slice of paradise over here. Thanks for making the trip @ehilk @D4ndrews @nuclear_niblick @Trussi @Kornwhalice @BrysonsLats @Koehn54.
Had a blast with calfasaurus Rex (@alby) and @k-yan. Was super fun watching them ball out as they kicked my ass up and down the course. @GremlinGolfer wait until you get your eyes on Kevin’s new lid.
Thoughts on this January 2024 trip:
Ventura. Stay in town, play Soule Park, Olivas Links, Rustic Canyon, Buenaventura. Drive up to Santa Barbara to play Sandpiper, SBGolf Club & Glen Annie. Then go up the coast & play the state park course in Morro Bay.
Soule and Olivas and rustic are awesome. Sandpiper is beautiful (but they could do better with the land). Buenaventura is fine but unremarkable, you could skip that. You could also do a twilight round at Ojai Valley Inn after a sunrise round at Soule. Have done that a few times.
La Purisima is another good option to add, and also up towards Morro bay i would like to give a strong, strong recommendation for Monarch Dunes which is a fantastic course.
Babe you’ll be in my hood and I can’t wait to go play golf with you. Either at Morro Bay or Cypress Ridge
Just make sure you let us know when so we can get some tee times together
Went to school in SB so I am very biased and love all 3 of those courses. Sandpiper is beautiful but agree the course itself could be a bit more interesting though there are still some awesome holes. Glen Annie is pretty hilly but if its a nice day you’ll have amazing views. And then SBGC is a fun easy walk on a short but fun cheaper course.
And I’ll echo @bw72 in suggesting La Purisma. Really cool place. If you had to throw one out to fit in La Purisma it’d be SBGC as its a pretty standarn muni
Are any of these carts only?
None of the Santa Barbara ones although Glen Annie is a tough walk. Lots and lots of elevation change and I’m pretty sure La Purisma is a tougher walk but I played it in an absolute rain storm so I wasn’t as focused on the elevation changes as much on surviving.
Yes, just speaking of the various courses recommended above including the Ventura ones. If a cart is required, I am out.
Unfortunately Buenaventura got bodied in the rains last year. I think it’s still closed and not sure if they have a time table to reopen. Don’t know much about the sb courses outside of sandpiper, but definitely the most skippable of the Ventura courses. You could play ojai valley in instead but cart may be required
Have my flight booked, though its cancellable.
What would be the best course to play direct from LAX? Happy to drive an hour in any direction.
If you are on your way to Ventura, Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks is a fun stop along the way. Getting there in an hour from LAX would be possible during the best traffic conditions but I would budget slightly more time.
None of Olivas, Soule or Rustic will require a cart. All are walkable. As @bw72 said Buenaventura isn’t remarkable at all - it’s not offensive, but it’s best feature is that if you play it after Olivas, it costs like $20. I think it’s like a par-68 or something? Can’t really remember. It’s better than playing nothing but it’s also not worth going out of your way for. I haven’t played Ojai Valley Inn but it looks great (including in the Tourist Sauce video).
Sorry this wasnt clear — doesnt have to be on the way to Ventura.
I’d still recommend Los Robles Greens. Other options: Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes (pace of play can be brutal), El Dorado Park or Skylinks in Long Beach, Wilson or Rancho Park are the best of the public courses run by the City of Los Angels (but getting a tee time is next to impossible). Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia is fun but more than an hour from LAX.
90% sure this course is cart only
