Looks like you have to be a Gold member to do that. I just have the free version. If I upgrade I will let you know!

Good luck brother! I know being active with the kids is a huge factor for me as well. My dad was a big guy and didn’t really do much with us, and I’m deathly afraid of passing on that same attitude and traits towards my kids. Treats and snacks were a regular staple in my house growing up, it’s only since I’ve gotten married my wife has given me lots of, “WTF are you doing” for me to realize that probably wasn’t the best idea.

Changing habits and changing mindsets is one of the toughest things we can do. The support in this group is awesome, and just giving yourself some grace to do your best without getting stressed about day-to-day results.

Looking back, so much of my childhood fun came from having parents (especially a dad) that was always game for getting down in the muck and playing with us and was fit and active enough for it. My mom made us all a little picture book for Christmas one year and I was really struck by how many of the pictures include my dad somewhere in the background down on the ground or in the middle of the play.

Now that my folks are retired and in their 60s, I’m always struck by how important being fit and active is in their lives. It’s cool to see them still fit enough to go on bike trips, ski trips, play pickleball etc. As I get older, I’m really driven by being fit into my 40s, 50s, and 60s becaues I can see how valuable it is to quality of life and enjoying life.

Been eating only between 11-8 for the last 2 and a half weeks and combined with joining a gym, have lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks.

Am being mindful of what I eat, but not overly so (had a burger the night before my last weigh in and at a big ass cheesesteak last week). So far, this has been easier to adjust to than other methods I’ve tried.

Some of my best successes in the past have come from not so much dieting, just not eating like a piece of shit. Completely normal for me to crush a frozen pizza by myself, eat pizza 3 times a week, lie to myself that chicken wings are healthy because they’re chicken. Wife’s going to see Hamilton tonight so I was like" I’m going to reward myself for a good week with Taco Bell tonight". Then I had to remind myself that A. its been a week and B. I don’t need to reward myself with food. I’m not even craving it, Its just convenient.

This was a big key for me to start losing weight again. I had a habit of anytime I ran some errands to stop at a gas station and grab a drink and a candy bar, slice of pizza or roller item. Been forcing myself not to do that and have felt a lot better and dropped 5 lbs the past couple weeks (we’ve also been eating better/less overall).

I did do it a couple days ago an immediately regretted it.

This speaks to me… down a bag of gummy bears thinking about what I want for a snack… Its amazing how much less hungry I feel when I’m eating quality over quantity

Amen to this.

If you can avoid drinking your calories and reduce simple sugar intake, it’s a lot easier to feel satiated and manage caloric intake.

Keep truckin’ everybody.

Last night I had a lot of calories remaining in my daily budget and when I was on my way home from picking up a Target order I wanted in the worst way to stop at Culver’s for a concrete mixer. If you don’t know what these are it is basically the same as a Dairy Queen Blizzard but with the made fresh daily custard which is the best. The smallest size is estimated at 900 calories…

I resisted and had a healthier snack when I got home. I was so sad but I know I made the right choice.

Strong work!

I was in a similar boat last night while scooping ice cream for the kids and scooped myself a single serving (250 calories) of plain chocolate; wanted to load it with toppings but didn’t. Stayed under budget, enjoyed the treat, and lived to eat in moderation another day.

One of the habits I’ve been trying to practice is a form of exposure therapy in which you participate in something to build a new calibrated normal. Straight avoidance can still result in binging, so if I can serve myself a little and enjoy it, that hacks my mentality on what an appropriate portion/indulgence can be.

I completely agree with this approach. One of the key parts of sustainability, IMHO, is figuring ways to adapt. Exposure therapy is a good word for it. I can’t just expect to turn into a hermit every time I need to lose weight (ie avoid tempting foods and situations).

Last night I stayed up past the wife and kids to get some work done. In the past this is the absolute peak danger zone for me, and could lead to full on binges with cookies or whatever we have around. Instead I had a handful of pecans and made them last.

Later in the night is always my weakest point too

I always struggle not to over eat on Friday night after a couple of drinks

How is everyone doing after the weekend?

This weekend was tough. What do you do for a calorie budget when you can actually get out to play golf?

I ended up eating not good but stayed under my calorie budget. I took full advantage of burning lots of calories to enjoy some Raising Canes chicken and a smaller ribeye for dinner.

Still down in weight. Down to 251 from 259 after my second weigh in.

Strong work!

Noom will automatically add to your calorie budget half of the calories you burn through exercise, so it ensures you get rewarded for working out (I use an Apple Watch to track workouts and overall step count and calorie burn each day). I typically give myself some flexibility in what or how much I eat with that added budget.

That said, my weight always stagnates after the weekend due to water retention after eating breads and drinking alcohol; that usually falls off and continues loss trend after a day or two.

Strong weekend here and feeling proud of myself. I played a charity scramble on Friday with an early lunch. Stayed strong on nutrition and went from 11-7:30 on nothing but water and dedication. It wasn’t bad until maybe the last three holes when I was legit very hungry. We had friends over Friday night which is always a gamble diet-wise. Again, I did very well and opted for the best meal nutrition-wise and stuck to Trulys (too many tbh, but better than other sugary options).

I think hard seltzers are a great alternative to beer, especially while playing. So much less filling. My go-to is High Noons.

That’s a good idea. I had my kid with me at the course this week, but the hard seltzer is a good idea for the course if going to be enjoying some beverages.

Guilty might not be the word, but I knew after my round having Cane’s was not the right choice. Fried chicken and french fries makes me sick now from being too heavy.

I can’t blame you for going after it. Fried chicken and fries is a comfort food for me. Last week my family wanted Chic Fil A and I got the chicken wrap with a cup of fruit, and was pretty proud of that choice considering it’s not my usual choice when we get it.
