Damn man, I’m sorry. What a shit time to break your foot, too. We can get back there because we’ve done it before. Now that I’m a little older and not in my early to mid 20s, just feels a little bit harder
I feel ya. I’m 38… seems like I’m waking up with something else hurting every week… We got this though
We are down 5 pounds so far.
Sticking to the calorie budget has been difficult, but we are following it.
I have always been a massive grazer and snacker.
Energy levels have been lower, but we also haven’t had the over ate and feel gross.
Was able to walk a round this weekend and did some hiking.
Very happy with Noom so far.
Is it wrong of me to kind of laugh at her reaction at around :17-:18 in that video? The audible “oof”.
Also, as a 41-year old who rolled my ankle (and tore 3 ligaments) playing hoops in February 2014 but didn’t have surgery to repair it… I feel you. My ankle will never be the same, just a constant slow, stiff, numb “I need to crack my knuckles” feeling there for the last 8 years.
Getting old sucks.
The wear and tear on your knees is probably a myth. Just like anything, “too much too fast” or “never used” is not a good thing. Some studies even saw jogging/running help the knee.
It’s sort of hard to get a solid workout in on a bike. You need a lot of time and resistance. Incorporating some running/sprinting/rowing/lifting will get calories burned much quicker.
lol I laugh at it all the time… that reaction is when the sprinkler water hit her. Everyone always watches it and says “your wife is a saint”. just after the camera cuts out she goes “can you move” I’m like “yeah, I thinks so” and she goes “good get off the ground. That FedEx truck down the street is dropping a package off here” then made me crawl to the front step…
Looking for a fitbit/whoop type health monitor budget friendly option. Really looking sleep info, blood pressure, and recovery type information. Any suggestions?
Yesterday I laid out and began a plan for myself. I’m calling it March Madness. I’ve had the Streaks app for a while but never really used it. Here’s some screenshots and an explainer for each streak.
For the rest of the month I’m committing to the following:
- Skipping breakfast (it just helps with lowering calories)
- Hitting the peloton once per day
- Tracking the food I eat
- Walking 8k steps
- Stretching daily
- Practicing golf at least 3 time per week
- Drinking at least 2 Hydroflasks of water (I’m usually a coffee/diet soda only person)
Big shout out to @Thans3 for the Losing 100 Pounds with Corinne podcast. I’ve been enjoying it so far.
I will say that everyone’s situation is different. Your knee is meant to handle only a certain load, and if you’ve gained a lot of weight, it throws that situation out of balance. As well, there are individual concerns (such as the fact that I have arthritis in my knee from a previous injury) that changes the equation.
Surface makes a big difference too. Many run of cement sidewalks, which are bad for joints, or don’t use proper footwear. Both of those need to be controlled.
I disagree about bike workouts. Do a few spin classes and you can get a great workout in without a doubt.
I had a personal trainer take a similar approach with my elbow once… “it’s normal” and “you need to push through it” and the bam, shredded the tendons enough to completely tear it from the bone.
So if anyone is wondering if the expression “You get fit in the gym, you lose weight in the kitchen” is true or not … I’ve worked out almost every day this year. Mostly on the Peloton, also of course walking the golf course and other walks but a LOT of time on the bike. And I’ve also eaten fairly poorly for a variety of shitty reasons. And despite working out that much, I’ve gained weight. Diet makes such a difference. Which sucks.
Really struggling lately with the eating side. I know that working from home doesn’t help as I’m always two steps away from the pantry/kitchen but I’ve really been trying to limit having bad food in the house. Just feels like I’ll have 3 or 4 really good days then blow it and progress is lost. Didn’t really mean to turn this into a woe is me type post but it just feels really fucking hard a lot of the time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
I 100% thought I was going to lose all momentum when our gyms were closed in January. Instead I lost quite a bit of weight as I was not drinking and being very careful with my diet
Yeah, my transgressions include alcohol but just a lot of delicious but very unhealthy foods. Just need to, as you say, be careful with my diet and keep exercising and things will get back on track.
Snacking is always my downfall.
Somehow since starting this diet I haven’t had soda and kept any snacks to a minimum, unless I have the calorie room which last night I did and had an Edmund’s Cookie and Cream pie and regret nothing.
For me it has come down to my motivation. Why do I want to lose weight? Personally I truly do not want to buy bigger clothes. Had to buy some new work closes this year and those pants already do not fit cause of a rapid weight gain. I desperately want to be able to wear the clothes that I have without buying more which leaves plenty of money for golf.
I hear you, that part is hard.
I found some success with keeping flavored almonds, cashews, or a trail mix nearby and only taking 1/2 serving with a glass of water to satiate my craving and fill me up a bit… that said, it’s going to be different for everyone.
Grapes and snap peas have been working for me recently.
An apple with some peanut butter goes a long way for me too.
It’s a great question and different for everyone. I’ve been a THICC boi basically my whole life and it caught up with me about 7-8 years ago. I don’t know what it’s like not to have some sort of pain at all times (big one is spinal stenosis). With 3 kids, I want to be able to play with them forever and at this rate I’m worried my body will completely breakdown. I’ve mentioned it in another thread but I’ve decided to give up drinking for a year (at least) and hoping that changes other bad habits in my life, especially my bad eating habits. I haven’t been successful two months in but recently made a pact with my wife about eating better and the goal is to lose 50 lbs this year (ultimately I need to lose closer to 70lbs ti be “normal”). I’m starting to work out again but, as @greebs said, it’s all about the diet. I was successful with intermittent diet and am starting that up again. We shall see what happens!
I just added that app, how do you add friends?
