I had a similar time. Graduated college in 08, great recession, all that jazz. I was 6’1 185 through college, now closer to 285. Sedentary lifestyle, too much to drink, kids, marriage, all the same things led to a pretty lackluster job and it wears on the your mental well being. About 5 years ago I was at 240 and probably my best shape. Trouble now is restructuring my diet to not eat garbage all the time. The biggest thing that ticked me off is that I’ve got a bit of John Daly in my system. I still hit the ball as far as I did in my best shape as I do in my current weight. I’ve got to get more sleep, get back to the gym, and allow myself to take care of my mind so that I can find professional success and live longer. No good reason to carry the excess weight if I can get rid of it. Hang in there!!!
I’m approximately identical. Especially with kids I need to dig deep for motivation and do it soon.
Guis, I need to get back on the wagon. Diet hasn’t been great, and I haven’t been working out enough. Put on a few lbs and need to get back into decent shape.
Been slacking on Peleton and Yoga (both in frequency and intensity). Need to add some body weight work and start keeping a food diary again.
Glad to see this thread popping again!
In January I was the biggest I’ve ever been (260). It sucked. It’s been a few years of kid related stress, pandemic related stress, mental health related stress, etc. but it’s been a steady climb and has just been rough. I started doing some exercise biking which was good, and obviously walking while playing golf is never a bad thing. The wife and I agreed to put a garage gym in our new house, so we bought a NordicTrack treadmill, which has been cool. The iFit program has lots of scenic runs to go on, which distracts you from the struggle. Also picked up a squat rack and barbell set, not only to try and get my #speed back but I feel really good when I lift heavy weights. I used to lift a lot when I was an athlete, but haven’t done it at all in more then 5 years. Very excited to get back into it, after a couple weeks my form is coming back and I’m feeling better. Down below 240 right now which makes the shorts fit better.
My goal is 225 by fall (my old playing weight just in time for football season) and maybe even 220 or 215 by next January. But I also want to gain strength, as I just haven’t had any in a while and I miss being strong.
Hopefully we can keep each other all fired up throughout the fall/winter when golf disappears for some of us. I can definitely use the kick in the pants!
Would love my golf clothes to fit a little better. Let’s go boys.
Joining this thread for motivation. Started 2021 at 297, 273 this am. Would love to keep moving in the right direction here. Saw a lot of progress earlier this summer by using Noom, but I’ve flatlined a bit over the last 45 days due to a lack of commitment to the process.
Joining this thread for motivation as well. I had gone from 236 to 210 last year using Noom. Subscription ended and since that time put back on about 20lbs weighed 230 this morning. Recently rejoined Noom and this weekend went for a 9.66 mile bike ride with the wife and kids. Today, I worked out with resistance bands and body weight in the morning and went for a 2 mile walk at lunch time. Really want and need to get down to the 210 I was in April of last year. Just need to stay motivated and keep out of the pantry where the salty snacks are.
I’m in for motivation as well, I am a 38 year old washed up meathead. In the past 10 years, ive been as low as 180lbs, but now I am at a the UFC HW limit of 265. Just came back from a buddies golf trip and that opened my eyes to the mess that is my health.
My goal is to get under 200 by my 40th bday, which is 12/2/2022.
What exactly is Noom? I’ve seen it advertised, but what’s the shtick?
Hey guys, checking back in here. Really great to see all the success stories!
A year or so ago, I committed to losing weight to prepare for proposing to my now fiance this July. It went well for the most part, starting at 282 last October and getting down to 265 this May. I was doing Crossfit 2-3 times per week and playing pickup basketball the other days. My fiance was making delicious, healthy plant-based meals for me at home. Everything was going well, until I left home for Chicago this summer for an MBA internship.
I found a gym in town and have been playing quite a bit of pickup basketball, but let’s just say that I don’t cook, deep dish pizza is delicious, and it’s been a rough summer weight-wise.
I proposed to my gf in July (she said yes!), but we only took a couple pictures because I hate how I look.
Yesterday some buddies and I got on a bucket list course and attempted to play all 27 holes + their putting course. We only made it through 24 because of thunder storms, but by #10 I was donezo. On the front 9 I had plenty of energy, was bombing drives (had 9 iron and PW into the two par 5’s), and scoring well. On the second 9, my lack of fitness caught up to me and the swing evaporated. I started spraying the ball all over the place on tired swings, lost 6 balls in the fescue. Didn’t make a single par on that 9 (but did have a 5 footer for eagle on a par 5 ).
Basically the TL;DR is that I can’t wait to get home to my Crossfit gym and healthy cooking from my fiance.
I have a big golf trip (shoutout Refuge Fantasy Football League) next week in Pinehurst, and I already know I’m going to be so fed up with my lack of energy and stamina. But it’ll be another good kick in the gut that I need to get serious.
Our wedding is in June 2023, so I have just under 2 years to get in fighting shape. I can’t wait!
Good luck to all my fellow thiccbois, I’m pulling for us.

Let’s get it
Basically helping you realize why you make the food choices you do and providing you with the “road map” if you want to start making healthier choices. I have had success with it in the past but like anything you need to stay focused and motivated.
Congrats man - that’s awesome!
Thanks bud!
It has daily lessons with cognitive behavioral therapy type advice (some of it can get pretty cheesy). Inputting your food and seeing calorie intake helps keep me honest even though I’ve gotten away from it. Used it in 2020 to drop from around 260 to 215…have since gained about 10-15 that I’m working on now
Noom categorizes foods based on caloric density. 1 cup of greens vs 1 cup of nuts. One of these is a “green food” the other, “red food”. It doesn’t claim that one is bad for you, and the other is good, only that you can eat more “green” than you can “yellow” or “red”.
You log your meals and go through classes to understand what you are choosing and the why behind some of those choices (social influence, convenience, stress, etc).
All in all, a good app if you stick to the process and use it. There are social groups and a personalized coach available as well.
Very cool, thanks
Just thought I would check back in. Last several weeks have continued to be stressful and weight has ballooned to the highest I have been in 18 months. Working to get back on track and have lost a pound this week but have at least 20 more to go.
Happy to find this thread. Ive always been a little chunky other than college when i slimmed down to 180. Im around 5’10" for reference. Was 225 in high school. Throughout medical school and residency there is no telling what i gained and was too embarrassed to weigh myself. I know I was 292 at one point so was probably 300 before I had enough. Tried to lose weight like 10 times and would fall off after a couple weeks. Finally joined a gym with a coresident October of last year. Between going to the gym 4-5 days a week, just trying to keep my calories around 1800 (no special diet), and riding the peloton a couple times a week. Im down to 219. Feel better than I ever have and handicap has went from a 13 to an 8. Im thinner and stronger now so average drive has went from around 240 to 265 or so. Keep at it fellow big bois. Dont know the special secret but its like something finally clicked in my mind and there was no way I was going to let myself fail again. Ultimate goal would be a muscular 190 but that will take another year or so
