Golf and Photography

Great question - I have an Olympus TG-6 but I legit have no idea what I’m doing. I just want to learn. I got it to take macro photos of my flies I tie but want to take golf photos this year too.

Curious what people say

New here and just stumbled across this thread. I have a normal 9-5 but my wife owns a wedding photography business which I’ve shot with for over a decade. I don’t carry a full rig with me on the course but still love to occasionally capture moments I want to remember via my phone. A couple from my home course, the black and white is Torrey and the rest are from the greatest place on earth.

Starting to regret buying the TG-6 without doing much research… problem is I’m still so early in the learning stage IDK if it really was a bad buy or just different. The struggle

From reading back looks like Sony X100 V might have been a smarter buy. Fuji X-T20 also seems highly regarded above @jaytarbzzz

Gracias Amigo.

It really seems like Fuji x100v is an awesome option. I like the thought of a single focal length vs tons of options. I’m headed to a local shop this week to try out a few options the Sony and the Ricoh GR3 are on the list too

I don’t have a place near me to try much out - I just ordered a Sony RX100 VA to try with the 30-day return window. We’ll see!

Will be curious to hear back after you go to check things out this week.

Well, after visiting my local shop (shoutout Robert’s Camera in Indy) I’ve once again proven I’m a salesman’s dream.

Went in thinking Ricoh GRIIIx (I also wanted to check out the Fuji x100v but knew it was a long shot it’d be in stock).

Came out with a full-frame Sony a7c ii and 24mm sigma lens. It’s certainly far more than I need but I loved the size and thought of the additional light capture/resolution with the full frame. Excited to get into it but also know I won’t be on a course till at least February.

Tough to follow the photo @fanofrockytop just posted, my lord that’s good!

I took this one with my iPhone Pro Max 15 in October. It’s nothing special but I really like the way the blue flag pops on the sky with the fall colors on some of the trees.

(with apologies to RF)

Which hole this is I do not know
A blanket of white laid out below
Both hole and bunker hidden here
Beneath a foot or so of snow

My little dog must think it queer
To stop without a bev-cart near
No ball to find nor sand to rake
This coldest day of all the year

I think of the shots I’ve yet to make
A round devoid of old mistakes
Impossible putts that make one weep
all concealed by wind-blown flakes

The fairway siren song pulls deep
but 'till the spring it will have to keep
But I’ll be back each time I sleep
Yes I’ll be back each time I sleep

This falls under “Where did you play”, “Golf and Photography”, and Waterfalls thread.

But one of my better grabs with an iPhone, gonna use it as one to tinker around with and see what I can do with it
